I'm on holiday in Spain at the moment, and the banknotes here are different sizes and colours, depending on how much they are worth. It's the same at home in the UK, and it got me wondering why US banknotes (or dollar bills asI believe they are referred to) are all the same size? All the same colour too. I know that any time I've had to use dollars, I've had to scrutinise them carefully in order to select the required amount. It's much easier to fish them out of your wallet by colour, as we are able to do. Everything is going beautifully for us in Spain, we had one day when it rained for a while, but apart from that it's been mostly hot and sunny. Hasta la vista. Photo is of our British Money - Pixabay

We have different size banknotes. Presently, our PM put a ban on 500 and 1000 banknotes out of blue this month. New banknotes of 2000 are issued which are in pink colour.

@Daljinder Why were those two notes banned? Is the pink 2000 a new colour?

@jaboUK To counter corruption, black money and terrorism. The bank note of 2000 itself is a new banknote.

so's such'll fit neatly'n our wallets? search me 's to why, hon. perhaps the diff'rent color inks cost more'n jest our plain ol' green? if'n such t'were reversed, i'd need to be checkin' each 'f y'all's bills coz i aint used to that color codin', lol. i'm glad to hear 'f the rain - not so's such'd put a damper'n yer holiday, but that 'tis most needed 'cross that country. so glad 'tis been mostly warm'n sunny there. been downright nippy 't times here. yesterday a most gloomy day with light sprinkles 'n no sunshine. winds hit 'bout 10pm 'n howled 'til 'bout'n hour 'go. enjoy, my friend! y'all deserve this :) big hugs 'n love!

@crazyhorseladycx Our wallets have different sized pockets for the different sized notes, so that's no problem. I don't think the bit of rain we had would make much difference here, but I suppose it was better for them than nothing. Sounds as if your weather isn't too good, hope it improves. Hugs back atcha

Glad you are enjoying yourself in Spain! I suppose it's all what you're used to using. Believe me, money is all good to me, no matter the color or size! We used to call foreign currencies play money or Monopoly money.

@DianneN That's true, the Euros are a bit like Monopoly money until you get used to them. But as you say, all money is good

It is easier if you can just look at the amount on the bill. My Uncle was blind and he folded each one a different way when he stored the money in his wallet.

Euros are gorgeous, I know. So bad they wanted to remove the €500 note, purple is my favorite color. My "native" currency is euro, I can't say I used the Italian lira because I was too young back then. I never dealt with foreign currency but it would interesting to pay in US dollars someday.

Old British money, some of it. Good question, I have often wondered about the US billfold... Although some dollar notes, or bills, now sport some colour other than green, as I recall

@jabouk I still lament the passing of European currencies. Euros are so boring and bland even if they make life less complicated on some level. Bring back the lira is what I say.

@xFiacre The Euro does make it easier when travelling around Europe I suppose, but yes it was more interesting to have individual currencies. I'm afraid your last remark has gone over my head - 'lies'?

@jaboUK What it should have read (and now does) is being back the lira. Spell checker tried to have it also as bring back the IRA. Can well do without that.

It is interesting as to why many places have different sizes, the different colors do make sense, as well as different sizes. For some people it is just easier to have different sizes and colors and for others we just got used to having it all the same. It is a good question though. I love looking at other place's currency.
