How do you safeguard your belongings, specially when you are at public places. The other day one of my friends went to witness a mammoth trade fair with his wife. His wife was carrying a wallet, which was tucked in a huge handbag with zip locked. However, in the crowd, someone opened the zip of the handbag and took away the wallet containing sizeable amount of currency notes and a debit card. His wife did not come to know when her wallet was stolen, as she was busy shopping stuff of her choice. Do you remain cautious when you go at crowded public places so as not to lose your belonging, specially if are carrying cash? What precautions do you take to take for safety of your belongings? You have to be on guard all the time. Years ago my husband and I were in Nashville and took a ride on the General Lee - a paddle boat that gives a little tour of the Cumberland River...anyway, when we got off the boat I went to take photos of our friends and my camera was gone. Someone on the boat took it because I had used it on the boat.

It is really sad that slight carelessness on your part made you lose your camera. We learn only when we commit such mistakes. I agree with you that we should always be careful while carrying our belongings, our momentary carelessness could prove costly for us.

@HAPPSINGH It gets worse..I bought a new camera and we were on vacation in another state. Went to a restaurant for lunch and I made the mistake of hanging my camera on the hook in ladies room stall. As soon as I realized what Idid I went back and it was gone already - only a few minutes and it was gone.

I don't use a wallet. My money is hidden at the deepest & smallest pocket of my jeans.

I used to put things in the back pocket of my jeans until I was pick pocketed one time on the train. I have no idea how they managed to do this because the pockets were quite tight!

You are very wise. It is wiser to carry a sling bag because by default it hangs right in front of you and chances are remote, if someone is going to steal something from it.

It is difficult to know what is the best way to safeguard cash. We had a wallet stolen in Vienna when we were travelling. It was very inconvenient.

@dpk262006 Even if you are being careful, your pocket can be picked. These thieves are very clever.

I separate my monies in small amounts and keep in on my person, if possible. A pocket or jeans. I keep small amount in different compartments in my bag and I hold my bag in front of me. I keep my purse with a $20.00 bill alone. If I am with family members I ask them to secure it for me. I have had an identical case where a person bumped into me and was in the process of taking my purse. I learn from that.

@Gita17112016 - It is good to hear that you live in a safe environment and you need not worry unnecessarily for your money being stolen, when you are at a public place.

@dpk262006 Many times turn to more professional jobs than picking on individuals. Also, most shops are now providing their own security guards. Guards are so helpful, one even helped me to pick out an item I was buying,

@dpk262006 Yeah, we don't really use credit cards much in Trinidad. Mostly cash. And sometimes it's from the car straight to the store. Also, we are aware that people do pick pocket...but it's not very prevalent here too. So, generally, we shop in a safe environment.

If I can carry things in pockets, I will do. If not, I carry a small bag which I put over my shoulder and hold on to. If it's necessary to carry a larger bag, I have my hand over it (and most of my bags have different compartments and at least two different fastenings to get in! So I think I'm fairly safe. I almost had someone try to steal out of a bag I was carrying but, luckily, someone else saw and told me. Since then, I've always kept my hand over the top of any bag if I can, or just kept things in pockets and either zipped up the pockets or kept my hand in them!

You know it very well that how to safeguard your valuables. It is good to keep a hand on your hand bag and keep all its zips locked. If we take adequate precautions, we could prevent any kind of stealing from our purse.

When I was a student, my wallet was stolen once. It is a big loss for a student. So after that, I told myself I would never make the same mistake again. When I go out, I always keep alert. Such as usually I will put my phone and wallet to my pocket or the inner layer in my bag. And I will carry it in the front so that nobody will open it. If I carry a handbag, I will usually put my hand on it.

So one bad incident in your life gave you a lesson and you always remain very careful about your money, when you are out at a public place. It is better to safeguard our hard earned money, when at public places.

When I carry my bag I place my hand over the zip tag so it is less likely anyone can grab it and pull it open. I was on a train with my mother one time and I looked over to her and she had her bag open and a man was standing beside her with his hand just sticking in the bag. He was looking the other way, pretending to be nonchalant, and she had no idea it was happening. Since then I have been very careful.
