Motivation: What moves you?

I have always had problems motivating myself and staying motivated. I have trouble starting projects/goals or getting them past the planning stages. I have found motivation in being pushed by others (which I resent), and by accident when life throws a curve ball my way, but have always found it difficult to commit and focus on a thing. What motivates you? How do you keep yourself on track when there are literally infinite things to do/ways to live your life? For those of you who are masters of internal motivation, what's that like?

I just look back at all the older versions of myself (including yesterdays version). I want to be better than all of them. I compete with myself everyday to do something better. Even if its waking up a little earlier than I normally do or actually eating breakfast, which I don't do all the time. Motivation from others doesn't sit well with me or last too long. It has to come from within. That is the only way for me to progress.

Love is my motivational force: love for God, love for family, love for mankind, love for the planet.

Love is my over-arching motivator. But for day-to-day tasks, the motivators are many. Right now, hunger is motivating me to order some Tom Kha Gai.

When it comes to work-related things, I am motivated in part by the desire to get things done, and done well. And by the paycheck. Working with wood is self-motivating. I enjoy both the process and the product. When it comes to guitar, same thing. Playing is fun, and I get better if I play more. But even as I pontificate, I have a progress note to do, and I just don't feel like it. Feh. I'll do it later.

Best way is to set achievable goals and make plans for coming day

This sounds like a solid, common sense approach to me. I have a list for this morning.

What Keeps Me Motivated Is Writing & Keeping A Journal . I Have A Journal So That I Can Write My Emotions , If I Don't Feel Motivated to Do Anything , I'll Write It All Down & After I Write I Feel Better . I Also Have Daily Reminders That Push Me to Work Harder & I Think About How Great My Life Is. I Think About Things I Want , Stuff I Want to Be Able to Do , & Places I Wanna Go . I Eventually End Up Motivated Again . Hopefully , You'll Learn How to Get Motivated Again . Good Luck ??
