Do you have a favorite Christmas song?

This time of year, so many people complain about all the Christmas songs being played on the radio. Many of us hear beautiful Christmas carols in church. I love the music of Christmas since I used to sing in our choir at church. Family and friends would go out Christmas caroling on Christmas Eve around my old neighborhood, and that was so much fun! Of course, we never went out with a list of songs we would sing, so in between songs (and houses) there would be quite a discussion over which song to sing next! LOL Anyway, my most favorite of all the Christmas songs is "What Child is This" followed very closely by a new favorite, "Mary, Did you know?". That said, I can put on almost any Christmas CD and be very happy. It doesn't take long for the music to grab hold of me and get me singing along. My late husband's favorite Christmas song was "O Holy Night". We'd never really talked about it, but we left church after Midnight Mass one Christmas and he was humming it all the way out to the car. Humming was something he never did, so I asked him about it and he told me how much he loved that song. My nephew is all about "The Little Drummer Boy". Every time I hear that song I think of him. While at our Christmas party last week, someone mentioned that song and my nephew said, "Oh, I just love that song!", and I had to smile. So, what's yours? I'm especially interested in what our @Grinch might have to say about this topic! -Claudia- image from pixabay

Hard question to answer. I love Christmas music. Each one you mentioned means something to me. Music is like an emotional blood transfusion to the spirit.

I think that my favorite is "Joy to the World" and some Italian songs that I used to sing when I was a kid.

@CRK109 "Tu scendi dalle stelle" is also one of my Italian favorite, those songs bring back memories of happy days, when I was still a young girl and my father was still with us.

I do agree that "Joy to the World" is gorgeous. As for the Italian songs, my mother's favorite was always "Tu scendi dalle stelle". Her mother used to sing that one every Christmas and Mom would cry just hearing it. So imagine my joy when our choir decided to do it one Christmas at church. When we began, I looked over at Mom and the tears just came down her face, but she was so happy that we performed it. And it fast became one of my favorites.

@CRK109 True. It's my favorite carol and one I learned to play many years ago without music. I need the music now as it's been a great many years since then.

Although it's a bit sad perhaps I like 'There is no room'. The melody really gets to me. And I have to agree what 'O Holy Night' is very special too.

Some of my favorites are sad. I think that's part of why I love this season so much. There really is a mixture of joy and sadness.

O Holy Night is my favorite, although Mary, Did You Know is up there. Cee Lo Green sings a version that gives me chills. Have you ever heard "Strange Way to Save the World"? I think that's the name; it's by 4Him, a Christian group. My sister and I used to sing that in church as a duet. 4Him also sings Season of Love which makes my heart happy.

Good question, I like alot of them. As a matter of fact tonight I was singing 12 days of Christmas! It is not really a song per se..but I have always been partial to Carol of the Bells.

Carol of the Bells seems to set the tone for the season for me. I always love hearing it. And one tradition we used to have when I was younger was sitting around our dinner table at Christmas and singing the 12 Days of Christmas. And messing it up a lot and laughing!

Christmas music is what gets me in the Christmas spirit. I love Little Toy Trains by Glen Campbell.I 'm planning to sing O Holy Night in our program at church and I hope to sing Still the Greatest Story Ever Told for church this Sunday morning. I'm sure you miss your husband when you hear that song. Hugs to you.

I miss him every second of the day, that's for sure. I love that you'll be singing at church the way I used to. How I miss it. But I'm waiting for the Baby Jesus to be born. The rest of it is fluff that seems to make people happy. I know that God has gotten me through some rough days and so I'm doing the best I can to do my part for Him.

i enjoy the type of songs mostly sung at church and a few of the others. It sometimes depends on how often some are played whether I get tired of them that year or not. You're wondering about what Grinch might think? I'm not sure that he'd see this as I think you have to put the name he uses after the @ rather than the current name showing up first since it changes all the time. I'm guessing your talking about JJ?
