Found this on Twitter. It's one of those "moments in time". Excuse the pun. (twitter.com/twitter/status/806624879067832320) I know Twitter isn't technically a “news source”, but I don't think this is Fake News. Sharing it here because a year ago, I published a discussion here about Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany. (REF: www.mylot.com/post/2871372/time-magazines-person-of-the-year-for-2015-is-ruining-germany) Time Magazine named her the Person of the Year for 2015 and Trump said she was ruining Germany. Connecting the dots on the timeline, so to speak. I totally get why he was picked. No argument or further discussion about the selection is necessary. Just saving this as an historical marker. Can be used to contrast and compare these two very different political leaders and their "methods of governing the people"; especially the handling of crisis situations like immigrants pouring across your country's borders. (P.S. If it is fake news, it's the best April Fool's joke played in December ever!)
For 2016, Time Magazine has named President-elect Donald J. Trump as their Person of the Year. The title is given to the person who has had the most impact on the world in the last year.

I heard about this so I checked up on something after hearing the selection criteria - "for better or for worse...has done the most to influence the events of the year". Yes, both Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin have received the award.

Was not aware of Hitler and Stalin were picked, but I knew the "criteria" was not necessarily that the "Person" influenced events for the greater good. That's why I figured it wasn't "a bone to pick" about the fact that Trump was selected.

@cmoneyspinner Yes, the "or worse" bit was why I decided to take a look at previous choices, because there are people who qualified for that and I wondered if they had actually won.

@egdcltd - Glad to you left a comment here. Don't know if you know it, but wanted to encourage you by letting you that I see your content at various sites around the web. I think I came across something you had written a while back at Daily Two Cents just the other day. You stay busy and write good stuff. Keep it up!!

I read this news yesterday, and it is already on Wikipedia. If you look at their list of "Time Person of the Year", I think that any US president elected since Roosevelt (included) has been elected Person of the Year, I do not see why they should have done differently for Trump. Indeed, all the "Time Persons of the Year" have not had a good end, including a US President called Richard Nixon.

@JamesHxstatic Yes, they have elected Hitler, Stalin and a few others. The first French in the list, Laval, has been executed in 1945.

Frankly, I don't hold either one in high esteem. If I were to judge them by their political campaigning, don't know what I could say about either of them that was commendable. But the proof is in the pudding, as they say. Trump will leave his record behind. It will speak volumes, long after he vacates the Oval Office. Same goes for Hillary and her career as a politician and servant to the people. They both chose to put themselves in the public eye and the "eyes" are on them. Particularly Trump because he's the POTUS Elect.

Name ONE way in which Donald is better than Hillary! I'm not saying she's perfect, nobody is, but I was happy to vote for her and would have been confident she'd be working for the people of this country and not for her own interests and CERTAINLY not for Putin and the Russians.

@anniepa Hillary is pro war and her agenda of pro war revealed in past. She supported pakistan which is ally of ISIS. One way? I can point you to many of her ways like that. Besides she's leader of feminist and ironically suppressed a woman for her husbands clean cheat.

It is true, but it goes on to say, something like "of the divided states of America.." which we certainly are.

With deep sorrow, I must say we are much more divided than I ever realized. The 2016 election woke me up to a sad reality about living in America.
