No Bikes for Christmas?

My son just turned 7. When I was around his age I got my first bike for Christmas. It was red, and I loved it. We've been talking about getting a bike for our son but.... He doesn't want a bike. How many of you got bikes for Christmas as a child? Is it odd for a 7 year old boy to not want a bike. He said he was afraid he'd fall off. I told him he'd have training wheels until he learned to balance. He's still not buying into it. (Image credit pixabay.com)

I did not want a bike when I was a kid for the same reason as your son.

Did you ever learn to ride as you grew up?

@nonersays Yes, I did learn when I was 16, a friend of mine, who I trusted a lot, made me comfortable enough to try. This is something I never really liked.

They now have what are called balance bikes. No pedals, the kid rides using his feet, learning balance and bike handling skills. Wish we'd had them when I was a little kid.

If there are no pedals how do you make it go? If you're just pushing it with your feet isn't it the same as walking?

@nonersays - in a way, yes, but the kid is sitting on a bike, learning balance.
