The Darndest Thing

December 13, 2016 12:33pm CST
I recently got rid of my dog and cat in anticipation of moving, and it's just the darndest thing. Don't get me wrong...I miss them....but I don't. I'm much less stressed out, because there is no more poop, pee or fur to clean up. There is no more dog whining, or cat refusing to move out of the way. My son and I are breathing a lot better, I think we were allergic to them. And, my house smells noticeably better. I always thought that it was just the litter box creating the smell, but I think that my animals actually had some funky body odor that I didn't notice when they were here. I don't think I will be getting pets ever again.

No matter how much we love animals, sometimes it's better not to have them. I'm 62 and Cookie will be my last dog. She is 18 years old and in good health but I expect she'll probably leave me within a year. I have loved all my pets dearly but to get another would not be fair, I would die before they did. And I would love to be able not to have to worry about a pet if I were to go spend a week with my sister or take a trip somewhere. I also suspect I would breathe easier with no dander in the house. I'm sorry you had to get rid of your pets but it sounds as if you're healthier without them as well as not having all the hair and mess. I hope they went to loving homes so you'll not worry about them.

I made sure they went to good homes. I family took the dog, and they send me pictures of her occasionally, and a nice couple took the cat. I actually had eight people competing over who would get the cat on facebook before I chose a home for him.

I am a person that does not care for pets. I had a friend animal once. But Misty was the best of human being covered with a dogĀ“s fur. Besides, she lives outside. She did not even like to get in when there was a thunder storm. I would never call her "pet".

Well at least you discovered you could live better and breath clearer. I however could not imagine having a cat. The difference with us here in the suburbs of Latvia is that we don't need a litter box because the cat goes outside to do his stuff. Hope you enjoy your new home.

Although it was sad when I had to get rid of my harness ponies, once they were gone, I seemed to have nothing to do. Pets do create a lot of work.
