We have moved to our remote island!

Well, we have moved into our new 160 year old home on our small remote island! 128 people live here, and we are an hours ferry trip away from the nearest everything! We do have a local shop - sells just about everything you could want - and they will order things in for you if you have any specialist desires. We love our house - the walls are twice the width of me, and the doors give you a headache if you don't duck as you enter. We have been busy sightseeing, looking around and meeting the locals. We had a weeks holiday in the only holiday home whilst we were waiting to move in. We have started a daily vlog, however internet speeds here are dire - so we are a bit behind uploading them, but the first few are up in my blog. It feels weirdly normal being so isolated!

Personally I would not be able to live in a small island, except if there is a bridge to the continent. I feel like a prisoner as soon as I realize that it is surrounded by water. I hope that you will not have this feeling.

@destry For 128 inhabitants having a regular plane line once a week looks like a luxury. Is there a doctor on your island ?

@destry ah, so for any special orders you can expect them to be delivered every wednesday?

How adventuresome you are. Are you retired, if not what will you do there?

I have to wonder if there is a doctor nearby.

@rebelann A doctor flys onto the island once a week, and we have a full time nurse on the island as well as several first responders who are trained in first aid, fire fighting etc - I'm one of them!

I imagine you have a helicopter handy in case of a dire emergency @destry people get hurt at the most inopportune moments.

How exciting! I wish you happiness and good health in your new home. I'd live in Scotland, too, if I could. It's such a beautiful country. The only island I visited there was The Hebrides.

If my family was on that island I'd be more than happy to stay there. The isolation sounds wonderful. My family though would not be be content. They are too involved in activities that take them all over the place.
