Kopi Luwak or Cafe Alamid is not the most expensive coffee anymore. Civet cat coffee is the coffee made from the poop of a Civet cat or a bear cat. These Animals loves to eat ripe coffee berries and when they poop it the beans remain whole. People wash the beans, clean them, disinfect them, dehydrate them and roast them to turn them into Coffee. Kopi Luwak is so famous that Queen Elizabeth and Oprah Winfrey loves it. Well there is another expensive poop coffee in town. In an Elephant reserve and Sanctuary in Thailand, they feed the Elephants Coffee cherries which they poop as coffee beans. They call it Black Ivory Coffee and it is now the most expensive Coffee in the world. I don't think people will embrace it as good as Kopi Luwak because Elephant poop looks grosser than Civet cat poop. Unlike the civet cat coffee the black ivory coffee is not mass produced because they do not want to stress the elephants. You will have to visit the elephant sanctuary to try it.
Coffee made from elephant droppings collected at a Thai sanctuary sells for $50 per serving.

@Ayuriny I can't blame you at all. Most people drink it because it is a status symbol.

Yeah, I learned about it some time ago and at that time I posted a discussion about it. It is just so terrible to think about how this coffee comes from Of course its quantity is much more and therefore it shall be less expensive. However, I still prefer to normal coffee

Ok, now I've heard of paper goods (like notes and journal papers) made out of elephant poop . . . but a beverage? I didn't know elephants even liked eating coffee berries!!

@CaptAlbertWhisker So does this coffee actually taste extraordinary? Are there more health benefits than regular coffee? Is it only expensive because of the novelty that it came out of an elephant's butt? Places like Starbucks is already expensive enough!

@much2say Civet cat coffee is nature's decafinated coffee and it is good for people with acidic stomach. I am not sure if elephant poop is the same. From what i heard though, it has flavors of blueberries. Civet cat coffee tasted like chocolate.

I think the Elephant preservation in Thailand just want to get more funds and this is their way to get more for the preservation of these animals. Coffee poop is more of a civet cat job though.

Both are an animal maltreatment, and more the elephant coffee than Kopi Luwak, because an elephant in the wild would never eat coffee berries. If they want to torture someone, they should better consider to eat themselves the coffee berries to produce a human poop coffee.

I think Kopi Luwak wont be a maltreatment if they were just droppings picked up from the wild not cage farming. Those cage farmers popped up when they decided to commercialized it.

@fishtiger58 Pig coffee! I mean pigs are always available and there is no need to disturb some wild animals.

The earnings help the preservation of the Elephants. We know Elephants are endangered and the production of this coffee stops humans from killing them.

They need a bigger animal to make that expensive coffee. But it seems disgusting. I'm contented with my coffee already.

If I am a Millionaire, I want to buy Land in Metro Manila and turn it into my private Forrest. It will have walls so no poachers can enter. I want the forest to have civet cats living there happy and free. I will sell the civet poop for the maintenance of the forest. I want to have a private Forrest so Metro Manila will have fresh air.

I heard strange stories about healing with animal's urine or poop. I would imagine someone who desperately wants to heal from chronic illness would drink or eat something like that. But a healthy person drinking it for taste?

healthy elite rich people to be specific. From presidents to Queens. The civet cat poop coffee tasted like Choco Mocha. I am not sure about the elephant one. There is also a Bird poop coffee and Muntjac poop coffee. For the less daring there is a monkey spit coffee.

@Madshadi Nope, The monkey chewed the berries and spits the seeds. I am sure the saliva is gone after the washing and roasting.
