A Dirty House Equals Bed Bugs?

On a local news website there was an article about an apartment building that was infested with bed bugs. The apartment building consisted of twenty-nine units so it was a small apartment building. Its residents were poverty-stricken and the owner was doing what he could to house them without any help from the government. The owner and manager tried everything they could to rid the building of the bed bugs. They finally turn to an exterminator for advise. The exterminator said he would take care of the bed bugs free of charge, which saved the owner thousands of dollars. The article went on to say they had to throw away all the furniture since it was too infested with the bugs. After reading the article I read the comments. One woman wrote that being poor was no excuse for having a dirty house. Then she went on about keeping the house clean. I knew this woman knew nothing about bed bugs. She was blaming these people because they apparently did not keep their apartments clean. Then there was a comment from an exterminator that set the woman straight. He informed her that a dirty house had nothing to do with getting bed bugs. These bugs are travelers. They will get in someone’s luggage or something else and hitchhike places. Or they will crawl from one room to another. It has nothing to do with a dirty house. This exterminator said one of his first bed bug jobs was in a penthouse in downtown Seattle. I found the woman’s comment was that of someone shooting off their mouth without knowing what they are talking about. She just assumed since the residents were poor that their apartments were dirty. She assumed that the bed bugs were connected with filth. Have you ever wanted to tell someone to shut their pie hole until they knew what they were talking about?

Some people like to give the impression that they are the most knowledgeable about everything.

I do read the comments after online articles . . . and oh yah, there are always ignorant folks who have to say something ridiculous when you know very well they know nothing about the subject. I know people who have had to deal with bed bugs . . . my sister thinks her bed bug ordeal was from a particular hotel they stayed in . . . a teacher got it from a local theater in which others have also said they got bed bugs from there. Yes, they just latch on and continue to the next place - they don't just magically appear in dirty homes.

@RichardMeister I've never dealt with bed bugs personally, but yah, I've heard they are pain to get rid of - I guess the mass produce rapidly? Worse than fleas!

I'm sure if you go somewhere where someone who has bed bugs or has been somewhere where there are bed bugs you have a good change of them latching on to you and ending up in your house. It's sad you can't even go to a movie theater without worrying about bed bugs. And those buggers are extremely hard to get rid of.

All the time. Some people just think and assume the worst. You can be the cleanest person and still get them from traveling staying in hotels, airplanes, move theaters and even work places.

@RichardMeister They can. When I stay in a hotel I put my luggage in the tub while I really search the room since they can't climb porcelain.

@noni1959 I haven't stayed in a hotel or motel in years. Sounds like you have a good idea.

Yes, many times, but some people will remain ignorant no matter what you say or do!

This is true. Some people get something in their heads and there is nothing you can do to get it out no matter how wrong it is.

poor has nothing to do with-especially in an apartment house. just like roaches, all it takes is an infected article going into the building (especially furniture),and everybody has them after awhile if nothing's done. the house behind us got infected and they had to wrap the entire building to spray because of the bugs hiding in the walls. but yea,i'd tell them to shut the piehole..

Some years ago we read a lot about bed bugs in the most expensive hotels in the USA. As you've said, they're everywhere they like to be. Cleanliness is a good thing but bed bugs only laugh about it.
