The Day After

I don't usually go shopping the day after Christmas, but I did, because it was necessary. My son was going out so I rode with him. He had a Game Stop gift card and wanted to get some video games. When we pulled into the parking lot the place was packed and so I opted out and waited in the car. I thought I was going to be out there forever but apparently he basically knew what he wanted, and despite the crowded store he was in and out fairly quickly. Next stop was Walmart, and I was concerned. The parking lot looked more crowded than I had ever seen it but thankfully it's a huge store and inside it wasn't that bad. My son needed some new pants for work. Why he didn't do this sooner is beyond me but I suppose it is what it is. We were only in there for about 40 minutes or so. Not to bad for the day after Christmas. Our last stop was a Dollar type store. I am running out of Christmas wrapping paper and I refuse to pay 4 or 5 dollars a roll for someone to tear it up and throw it away. Whoever thought up Christmas Wrapping Paper is probably a millionaire. So I got my wrapping paper for an amazing price. I bought 18 rolls of paper and 3 boxes of Christmas Cards for the low low price of $10.50. My kind of deal. I'm thinking I'm good for the next 3 years now. Any of you guys get any good deals the day after.

We went shopping yesterday as well, something we try to avoid like the plague. But like your experience it wasn't as bad since we weren't looking for the after Christmas deals or returns of unwanted gifts. So our trip to get a few things for the pantry at Walmart wasn't too bad. Glad you got such a great deal. Nice feeling to be stocked up for awhile now. Have a blessed day

I am SO set on Christmas Wrapping paper. I always buy it after the holidays and stock up, but I am good for who knows how long. You are right whoever thought about Christmas wrapping paper is beyond rich! And, did you know you can make personalized wrapping paper with your faces on it... its even more expensive

@fishtiger58 Totally personalized wrapping paper is a waste and I wouldn't want my face to be ripped then tossed in the trash lol

I marveled at the amount of wrapping paper in your picture! I don't know why but I absolutely love wrapping paper! I try to get a bunch of different colors and patterns.. and I don't use the same roll more than once per person as I want to see a variety under the tree! I did go to Walmart and buy about 10 rolls of paper, and some lights as we're thinking of doing a real tree next year (we have a prelit artificial this year). I spent about $20.

@fishtiger58 I avoid the foil... it's pretty but hard to wrap with as it won't stay where you put it the way regular paper does.

It actually doesn't look like 18 rolls but it is. I even got some foil wrapping paper which I just love. You didn't do to bad yourself.

Every year I swear is going to be the year I shop after Christmas to take advantage of the huge clearance savings. But every year I go to Disney for a week after Christmas, and then when I get back I forget to go shopping for deals! Haha

@fishtiger58 See my dilemma? I can never catch the awesome after-Christmas sales, because I am always on vacation for a week from Christmas Day through New Years. By the time I get back home, all the good sales are over, and all the good merchandize has been cleaned off the shelves!

A week after Christmas and everything is gone anyway. You would definitely have to do that the day after.

@fishtiger58 that is also my perception; why do stores close on new year's day when good luck and finances should 'enter the stores for all year 'round'? i hope the stores and malls here will be opened come January 1st.

@ridingbet Many many years ago the stores here would be closed on New Years Day, but I guess the thought of money they have decided to be open, most are these days.

Here the stores are closed on Christmas, but rarely are they closed on New Year's Day.

They actually didn't have a huge selection of cards but I still managed to buy 3 boxes, so that's enough for next year. The wrapping paper however should last me at least 3 years.

@fishtiger58 It just not worth it, all my relatives other than my children live in the states and each card would cost me around $2.00 for a stamp...

@PainsOnSlate 2 dollars a stamp, that's pretty outrageous, one stamp here is like 46 or 48 cents.

I don't normally either but I knew I wouldn't be able to get that paper 2 days after. When I got to the dollar store I could barely get to the paper there were so many people with the same idea.

I didn't go out yesterday, but I did this morning and there wasn't even a hint of Christmas in Wal-Mart this morning. So sad. I just hate that everything comes down as soon as it's over. I'm glad you got some good deals. I didn't look for any after Christmas deals. I needed a new light bulb for the gift my daughter gave me. The bulb popped as soon as I plugged it in. I had a hard time finding the right size and wattage 25 W. Had to go down that aisle twice before I located it. And I needed water. I considered buying two cases since I'm going through water like a desert. However, I don't have room for two cases and I can always buy more when needed.

I saved money by getting that paper at 50 cents a roll instead of 4 or 5 dollars. I can't pay that much for something that is thrown away so quickly like that.

I avoid those places like the plague when they are as busy as that. Regarding the wrapping paper - I just use kitchen foil and have done for 50 years.

When I was little we didn't have Christmas paper but just brown paper which I always thought was fine. I bought some more Christmas cards after Christmas so I have a head start on those for next year.
