Practising our Box-Making Skills

For Christmas, we gave our son a wooden box that Vince had made. It has several compartments to it and a hinged lid. We've lined the base with blue fabric. We want to make some smaller, slightly different ones as display cases for different sets of coins. That will be our next project once we get the car window fixed (yes, it's stopped working again but luckily this time it is stuck in the up position). Our son is going to keep his clippers and accessories in it. We will have a few challenges with cutting the holes the correct size and putting the lining in nicely but that's all part of the fun.

It's very nice, my hubby has made many things for our house over the years. He made me a wonderful microwave cart, it's pretty big with drawers and two cabinets on it. Someone once offered us 700 dollars for it, we didn't sell.

Your cart sounds lovely. We made some of the interior cabinetry in this house. It's very satisfying.

My grandpa used to make stuff like that and he even gave one to dad many decades ago but after he passed away ma put it away somewhere and I haven't seen it since. I wish I had thought to ask her for it but in 1980 I had other things on my mind.

Yes they do @JudyEv but I think it's usually because the person in charge of what to keep has no clue it would be important to their children.

Yes, some heirloom items just seem to disappear don't they?

@rebelann I couldn't agree more. Some things don't seem important at the time.

I admire your joint effort as many couples have different interests but you seem to share.

I guess we do most things together. We make a good team really. I am just the TA (technical assistant) with most of our projects but I contribute ideas, fetch and carry, hold things, find things, plug things in and out. I love it.

I like it. My son asked for one for Christmas to keep screws and nuts in. He likes to TRY to fix things around the house.

You should encourage him even if he isn't too good yet. No doubt he will improve and his expertise could save you thousands in time.

@JudyEv Oh yes, I love when they pick up little hobbies like this. I have one that works on vehicles too, he does okay but makes some mistakes. He has saved his brother a ton of money. That car should have been parked by now, the repairs at a shop would cost more than the car is worth. But it is still on the road thanks to little brother.

@Happy2BeMe We sometimes joke that if we charged by the hour, even little things would cost thousands! Because we are so slow. :)

That is such a handy box to have. My father made me a box once, but didn't line it. I think I gave it to our son many years ago.

We didn't have time to make a new box. Vince made this some time ago and it wasn't lined either until we decided to give it to our son. They always look a bit special with a nice lining.
