I laughed so hard at this one.

So Stokes County borders my county to the North. They have a lot of rural areas up there, and so tend to close schools for inclement weather. Actually, half of the State has closed schools down but that's beside the point. Two of my cousins posted this video that the Super Intendant (I can't spell right now) sang to announce the closing of schools. Now it's nothing new, other states have had principals and the such doing this in the past. I thought this was creative though, and it's gone viral. Here's the link to the article on it.
With frigid temperatures and slick road conditions expected to linger for a few more days, schools across the Piedmont Triad are beginning to announce school closings.

It's mostly snow or ice that causes ours to close, but this is only temporarily.

@amitkokiladitya Fog has never deterred us, but then it never stays long here either.

It's an original way to announce the closing of the schools. In some States they are not equipped for the snow, it is so much better to close school to prevent accidents than to take chances.

I wholeheartedly agree. We just aren't equipped for it, we don't get as much as the North does. I think it has to be very drastic amounts of snow for them to close schools in our Northern States.

@LadyDuck So even in the most inclement of snowy situations, you'd still have schools opened? Is there safe ways for the children to get to and from the school? If I'm being honesty, I think the whole of America's educational system needs re-structuring. Advances have been made over the years, new ways to homeschool, learn from a public institute from home, etc. However, there is still a lot more that could, and should be done.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Here in Switzerland you must have a very serious situation to decide to close the schools, but we have the habit to get a lot of snow.

They seem to close schools over a drop of snow.

@jstory07 it depends on the area. We don't close schools often because we're very used to snow. Down south they are not, so yes, a drop of snow would shut down the school. It's too slippery to drive and accidents happen even here where people are used to driving in the snow.

We aren't equipped to handle it. I'd rather they close them down then for it to cause casualities.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I so agree with you. Childrens' safety should always come first. It is not worth the risk.

Yes, I thought it was cute. I imagine the parents enjoyed it more than the children though.

Wow someone was happy bout the school closing. Was it a blizzard that caused it?

Haha, I guess it's business as usual for the super intendent anyway, so I can't say he was too happy about it either way. There was anywhere from 4-10 inches in our State. I think they got about 5 inches in Stokes.

He said he wanted to "reach out to his students." I think this was a clever way.
