Does this work for you - Practise Makes Perfect

Wondering about this today, does practise really makes perfect. I think it can be true if it's tangible skills like swimming or baking, does it work for all other things like writing (which combines tangible skills like spelling/grammar/vocabularly and non-tangible things like ideas/imagination/creativity)? Just my random thought for the day.

Any book on writing will say that you need to write a great deal if you want to improve. I think any skill can be improved with practice but that doesn't mean that you'll become perfect but hopefully you'll become better.

I guess there's really no such thing as perfect as we should always seek to continually improve ourselves, otherwise we are just limiting our own talents, and we can achieve so much more if we are consistent and persistent.

Not actually perfect in all things that we do but becoming better if we will just practice everyday or most of the time...

Sometimes there's commitment issues or laziness that make us slack off, so I think the next question will be how to motivate ourselves to keep practising.

@bluemoonpavilion it is our goal or our aim to perfect what we are doing that motivates us. It is called self motivation. But there are times that it is also the outside factors that motivate us like our family or friends or the material incentives that we might receive .

I think the dictum that practice makes a man perfect holds true in all cases be it swimming, running, playing any game, cooking of even writing. (Perfection may not be 100%). When I joined mylot many years ago, I used to fiddle with thoughts and words and did not exactly know what to write, how to respond effectively. As I keep responding/commenting here, over a period of time, I gained confidence and the more I remained active, more I improved my writing skills. I am much more confident than what I used to be.

@bluemoonpavilion - You see my work profile is such that I should have good communication skills and I should be clearly able to express my views. Working on mylot has also helped me better my writing skills and thinking ability. Please do not under estimate your abilities, you still write very well and you would improve if you continue this way.

That is just so heartening to hear! Seems like your testimonial to this. I used to be much better at writing when I was so active back in the old days, but now thoughts and ideas just does not flow out as smoothly. I find myself trying hard to articulate what I have in my head.

You can only get better the more that you practice.

Well, maybe you can tell I'm referring to writing, and I hope so. I guess I need to be more active in mylot as there is lots of writing to be done here.

I'm wondering whether more ideas will pop up with practise and maybe they do, since I'm definitlely writing more now, in my comments

I think it depends on the person. Sometimes too much practice leads the person to become more frustrated.

According to my editor and my proofreaders, each of my books has been better than the last, so I do believe practice makes, if not perfect, definitely better.
