I don't allow flu shots

January 21, 2017 10:08am CST
Flu shots are vaccines that are administered to protect against three or four common seasonal viruses that an individual may contract. The vaccine is designed to make the individual produce antibodies to fight it off. However, I believe that if we maintain a nutritious diet, exercise regularly and develop an psychological/spiritual outlook that reduces stress, we do not have to worry about a flu virus that can potentially kill us. I happen to live this way and encourage people to empower themselves to make that change to conquer the flu.

I am inclined to agree with you Daniel. I'm highly skeptical of vaccines in general. I have never received the flu vaccine and always pass on it when it is offered to me. Personally i believe it's a farce and does more harm than good. If an individual chooses to get the flu shot that's their prerogative and I'm fine with that of course. I'm 39 years old and have had the flu only once and that is in large part due to having a compromised immune system because of Lyme's ..

livescience.com says: "The effectiveness of the seasonal flu vaccine depends upon several factors, including how well the flu strains in the vaccine match the strains in circulation. Some studies show that when strains in the vaccine are a good match with the ones that are circulating, vaccinated individuals are 60 percent less likely to catch the flu than people who aren't vaccinated. Flu vaccine effectiveness can also vary depending on the person being vaccinated — the vaccine tends to work best in healthy adults and older children, and less well in older adults."....So what that means to me is that you can still catch the flu after a flu shot...and that good candidates for the flu shot are younger healthier people. The flu shot is not a guarantee against the flu because the medical community bases the flu strain on predictions of what specific viruses are prevalent and when they are most abundant. If you are comfortable with the flu shot, more power to you.

@RhoShambo no, it is not a guarantee, just one more tool in my prevention plan. All the other healthy habits must be maintained also.

@paigea Absolutely. My agenda was not to criticize people who take the shot but rather give them some feedback/information on the reasoning/process. If you believe in the annual shot, it will probably work well with you. However, if you are questioning it, there are reasons why you would have a point. God Bless!
