Diamonds on the Soles of My Shoes

These frosty mornings when the sun is bright, walking to get the morning paper it is as if the fairies have laid a glittering carpet just for me to walk on. It makes me feel rich as a king! Of course, they are only ice crystals catching and reflecting shards of sunlight and they'll very soon be gone but they put me in mind of Paul Simon's Graceland track. I've always admired this track. The interplay of rhythms is something I think I shall never tire of and the backing of Ladysmith Black Mambazo clearly shows that they loved doing it, too.

What a wonderful phrase you've used here 'the fairies have laid a glittering carpet'

You are an imaginative person! To write this song,Paul Simon risked imprisonment to collect folk songs in south Afica, therein lies its being a hit.

You wrote beautiful words and this is a very nice song. There are diamonds on the ground here today, tiny shiny diamonds under a clear winter sky.

@owlwings I wear shoe crampons to go out, it is extremely slippery. I enjoy looking at the paw prints in the snow. Now it's very clear from where the cats come.

It is wonderful when we have the magic in our eyes to see the wonders, and to be transported to memorable music. I love your word pictures.

Beautiful to see indeed but I don't go out early enough in the mornings to see the diamonds as it's too cold! For those who like them, may I say: Shine On You Crazy Diamond

It's a great song isn't it? The duo, Beautifully Mad, sang it at our concert in an old church. In between verses the guitarist slipped in a few bars of 'Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring'. Some people are just way too clever.

No diamonds on the floor here at all. Nothing but the concrete jungle. But hey, it is still a solid walkway.

We also had freezing weather and ice crystals on the patio but walking on them was not a joy for me, it was like walking on a skating rink - so very slippery once the ice had stuck to my shoes!

I haven't experienced that. I wish I could someday. Imagine walking on crystals.
