Tupperware Query - Can Anyone Help?

I've just read a post by Lany (@Inlemay) about German noodles and Tupperware. The caravan we have just bought came with a few bits and pieces, two of which are like the photo above. These are shallow plates with sealable lids. The plates have a diameter of about 8 inches but are too shallow for anything but the smallest amount of food. Does anyone know what they are or the purpose of them? I googled Tupperware and gone through the catalogue but couldn't find anything resembling these. Hope you're all having a great day and thanks in advance.

Its apparently a RETRACTABLE BOWL - great for storage when not in use. It pulls out like a concertina when needed. Give it a try and let us know how it looks expanded into a bowl form

That would never have occurred to me, but it does explain the presence of those rings.

The bottom pushes out to make a deeper bowl. So easy when you know! I was sure someone on here would be able to help.

Tupperware is an expensive product here. In the past I just bought the lunchbox. Today I prefer to use "Glasslock" stuff because they are made of glass and I think this material is better. It is easy to clean and it is good for the health. The plastic stuff still contains some chemical elements and it is hard to say whether it is good to use in a long term.

@JudyEv The glassware is cheaper and I really like them as they have the best quality. Actually you will not break them easily

That is very true. I have quite a lot of Tupperware which I've had for some time. I haven't bought any new items for decades. It is expensive here too.

@youless Tupperware or plastic will probably be best in our caravan. It won't break but it is also lighter.

They are light and don't take a lot of room. We're not very keen on eating off plastic but you have to make compromises sometimes.

@JudyEv Yes but these will store leftovers or things like beans, lentils etc to keep them fresh. I would not eat out of them necessarily.

@BelleStarr @Jessicalynnt I hadn't thought about using them for storage but that's a good idea too. If you're not using them they pack just about flat.

Tupperware is very popular here. It is plastic but very long-lasting - and expensive.

@syeow1 I should probably explain that is isn't so popular for eating from (except perhaps for children and picnics) as for storage. They do have all sorts of tableware though.

@AutumnSnow @Madshadi If you push the 'plate' in the middle, it becomes a bowl! So easy once you know. :)

@JudyEv I wouldn't have figured it out myself either. My first impression when I see a plate would not be to push it and see what happens

@JudyEv In German we say in such a situation that you 'don't see the forest for the trees'. You look at the details and don't get the general idea.

Glad that you were able to find that they are collapsible as I wasn't quite sure myself. Guess they will work well for storage purposes in your caravan.

They would take less room but we don't like eating off plastic much. However with limited space you do have to make compromises.

I've sold Tupperware (another story) this is a compact bowl. Push the Center of the bottom and it should give you a nice little storage bowl. I wasn't a fan, but they do store very compactly when they are empty.

I can see that they'd be quite useful in confined spaces such as a caravan. Thanks for your input.
