After many dry winters, we are having a lot of rain here in northern California this year. After dealing with sinkholes and mudslides, we are looking forward to another week of rain. This got me to thinking about rain songs.
"When the Levee Breaks" is a gread flood song. It was first recorded by Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie in 1929. It was a ragtime style song.
Led Zeppelin's song "When the Levee Breaks," was a huge hit. The words were based on the lyrics of that song by Memphis Minnie.
I happen to love this cover of the Zeppelin version by Ben Harper playing the Weissenborn slide guitar. He is accompanied by Charlie Musselwhite on harmonica.
