A little dabble in the murky waters of YouTube this morning yielded a surprising nugget of cinematographic wonder that I thought I would share - the amazing scenes accompanying a wonderful rendition of Sibelius' "Finlandia". On the 6th day of December this year, 2017, Finland will celebrate the 100th anniversary of its independence from Russia, and this piece is a small part of the celebrations to commemorate that day.
Finlandia, Op. 26 is a symphonic poem by the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. The first version was written in 1899, and it was revised in 1900. The piece was...

I love the video but to be honest this piece always put the fear of God up me! It always sounds so sinister!

Stirring, yes. Some music can be very dark in places. Pictures at an Exhibition (Mussorgsky), The Planets Suite (Holst) - for every heavy one, there is a lighter one, I find ;)

I have no problem admitting my ignorance and thank you and myLot for enlightening me. I had no idea whatsoever that Finland was ever part of Russia

Russia is still incredibly huge, bigger in area than the USA or China. Unfortunately a lot of it is inhospitably cold...

No, @pgntwo didn't expect you to say that song was beautiful, unless you believed it is/was beautiful, vanny. You know he likes people to be honest with him... unless you are fibbing while playing some game or trying to entertain people on myLot! How are you today? Good, I hope!

@DaddyEvil @vandana6. This piece is more my style, as is the book shown (which I have read, and which is read by the author and exists in several versions on YouTube™).
Danse Macabre recorded by Bela Fleck, for "The Graveyard Book" by Neil Gaiman.

Very dramatic music. I would have chosen something less ominous.

@pgntwo Brooding and dark yet uplifting. A good choir singing 'Be stiill my soul' to Finlandia can get me going.

You have decided to celebrate the independence of Finland early. I find Finlandia a bit scary, and the first seconds of the video also, but as a whole, it is a good video. The only music of Sibelius that I like is his violin concerto in D minor.

@DaddyEvil The guys who put the footage together are really good at what they do, as you can see from the link I added into the discussion thread here with @LadyDuck. They are pictured with the renowned British wildlife documentarian, Sir David Attenborough, at a prestigious award ceremony, too.
