Today is 21st February. International Mother Language Day. In this day of 1952, many people sacrificed their lives for the sake of mother tongue "Bangla". We pay a great homage to those language martyrs on this day. We are proud of them. We are proud of Bangla Language. I'm a Bangladeshi. Bangla is our mother tongue as well as state language. I love this language very much. What are your mother languages and state languages?

We don't have that kind of celebration here. And it is great to know you are celebrating your Mother Language Day.

We had to struggle a lot to establish this language as our state language. So it's so special for us.

I have never heard of this. In the USA Mother's Day is usually the first Sunday in the month of May.

Tumhi Bhaloo! Congratulations to you on the occasion of International Mother Language Day. Bangla is a very sweet language. Once I tried to learn it but I could not. Needless to say that Bangla is spoken in some of the Indian States also. My mother tongue is Hindi.

One must love and respect their own mother languages. In our country every state has its own mother tongue.

@Priyanka1990 Not at all! You are welcome! I am linguist too. I am interested in language situations in different countries. I am very sensitive about such language problems. They unify history, culture and political situation. I am curious about such situations globally.

Wikipedia calls in "Bengali." I'm tempted to 'take this to Snopes.com,' it's so unbelievable that they would outlaw use of a language at a university! Anyway, I'm English-speaking all the way (yes, I took some Spanish- & German- & even a little Russian-classes; but those are still 'secret-code-languages' to me (like Klingon & Romulan & Vulcan )). Actually, Oklahoma (America) is home to many of the Native American tribes that gave us code-talkers in a war long ago---Cherokee, Choctaw, maybe Comanche & Seminole, along with obscure languages from elsewhere (look-up "code talkers" on Wikipedia).

Tagalog (sometimes referred to as Pilipino or Filipino in English) is the national language of the Philippines but we have many regional languages. English is spoken or understood by most Filipinos.
