Roses, Roses Everywhere In Southern California

This morning, @LadyDuck mentioned they are starting to have some types of flowers bloom early in Switzerland. We have many types of flowers which are also seasonal here in California. However, the most popular type of flowers you will see here are roses. You see them almost everywhere ... in Disneyland, around homes, along the beach, in pots, and as ground cover on hillsides. That is because roses will bloom the year around in Southern California. Because they come in so many colors, they are very popular. The photo above is of a rose garden outside a popular Laguna Beach restaurant called Las Brisas. They have roses of many colors and they are always in bloom!

Funnily enough roses are my least favourite flower, I don't mind seeing them elsewhere but not in my garden. I love to go around some formal rose gardens the smells and colours are amazing!

I can do without roses too, Gary. Although I did grow them when I was in my twenties, but they are a lot of work around here since they are attacked by bugs and things. I had quite a few plants back then but probably never will again.

@garymarsh6 - Some people do not like the thorns and some people do not like the bare plants when they are pruned. However, I love the rich colors and aromas!

@MarshaMusselman - Yes, roses do require attention. I have always fertilized mine regularly and treated them for bugs. The California climate makes their care a little easier than in other places.

Love the picture! You are indeed blessed to have roses all year round. Are you ever tempted to eat a few petals?

I absolutely love roses! Last fall, I pulled a rose bush from my front yard and put it in a pot. I haven't had much luck with this in the past. This rose bush seems to like the light in my kitchen.

I never thought before about which flowers might bloom all year long and which do not. Probably the perienniels that tend to be seasonal like tulips in the spring are the same way there unless they last a bit longer than the states that get colder weather. Roses are pretty popular here too even though they don't last all year long. Are annuals pretty popular there too? I wonder how long some of them last since here they bloom from early spring till the frost hits. Spectacular picture you have there. Not only the flowers but the view beyond.

@DeborahDiane I'm only familiar with a couple of those. One, I've read about here but never seen in person.Geraniums are a common annual here and many will bring them inside to weather the winter and replant them again come spring.

@MarshaMusselman - Geraniums will actually grow wild here and they bloom the year around. They are a very popular potted plant. They are also hardy. I'm glad you were able to save yours!

@MarshaMusselman - I am not very knowledgeable about a lot of flowers. However, geraniums do very well all the year long here in California, too. As for more seasonal flowers, we get wild Marguerites, wild mustard, iceplant, bougainvillea and Shasta Daisies. Those will bloom most of the year, too, if they get a little water. Lantana is also very popular in Southern California.

They are beautiful. Those roses must be maintained by someone. In Kashmir I have seen them growing on roadsides just like weeds.

Thank your for mentioning. I love roses, but the flowers I loved more in Southern California were those of the Bougainvillea trees. They come in so many beautiful colors in your country. We have roses here, but the Bougainvillea trees cannot resist our winters.

Roses are great, aren't they? They bloom nearly all year round here too. They are tough and you often see one still struggling along at abandoned farm-houses.

@DeborahDiane this morning, before i drove the car to the repair shop, i was so fascinated with the roses all in bloom here in our lawn so i took pictures of them, then uploaded them in my face book account under the album "i beg your pardon" and sub-tagged as "i'm sending you a big bouquet of roses, one for everytime you broke my heart".

They are absolutely beautiful. I like to look at flowers and admire them, but, I do not have a green thumb to grow them so leave it to someone else. I used to buy flowers for our Sabbath but stopped because they do not last long. They are so fresh and beautiful when buy them but I hate to see them get so bad and have to throw them out. You can actually get some nice ones that are not real that will last. I know it is not the same.
