I wanted to learn swimming not because I want to compete in swimming competition but because its one of the sports needed for triathlon. But you know what, I have the fear of deep water. My feet seems like shaking when I am in deeper part of the water. I know how to swim but only the basic and the easiest... like the dog's swim. But I cannot do it the other stroke butterly. I want to participate in triathlon. I know how to run because I already did 21 kilometers and I also know how to bike.because I have a mountain bike but what I need to practice more is the swimming. I'm getting old but my dream is to participate the triathlon even just the half-tri. I hope I will do it. Not the full stretch because I might not do it. I hope someday I will do it.

That's so interesting, good luck! I think if you focus on the competitive spirit while swimming and think about the results, you will be able to make it. However, swimming in such long distances is hard to complete, it will be good to practice first and be confident that you can do the swimming part. I do swim, my dad had a boat when we were kids. But I don't know much about athletic swimming and its techniques. Do you think about asking a trainer to coach you?

Maybe my friends who are working on their swimming can give me some training. They have already participated the triathlon and its a good experience from them to share to me.

@ilocosboy that sounds great. You should get some tips and maybe ask them to watch your swimming and give you their opinion.

nurses should know how to swim, but i am one who does not know at all. i can just wiggle my feet in a foot shallow-river bank and not swim at all.

This is a Great goal to shoot for. Do you know anyone who can help teach you how to swim so you get over your fears?

Yes some of my friends are into triathlon and they are the great influence in me to become a triathlete also. My only problem is swimming because I'm afraid of deep water. But I cannot escape it because the best place for training is in the coastal area.

You don't need to learn butterfly stroke to participate in triathlon. I think freestyle is the best. And its easy to learn too. If you know how to float, you can learn backstroke and freestyle easy. Good luck!

Thank you very much, I really need this push for me to do it. Its hard when I am just standing there giving them water while my friends are doing their passion.

i dont know a thing about swimming But if you try to ignore your fears because when you were born you only didn't have any fear. only maybe the fear of falling or something. as you get holder you began to learn about the fear and you also start to adopt to it
