A DOCTOR - NOT A MAN.

Do you ever think about the gender of the doctor who is examining you, and do you feel comfortable or uncomfortable? Doctors are expected to be impersonal beings - they listen to your most intimate details and do intimate examinations of female and male patients every working day -- but, they are human - with lives outside the hospital doors.
A friend told me that while she was being prepared for surgery, two male doctors and a female nurse chatted over her head about their dinner dates for later in the evening. Yes - doctors do live normal lives - so how would you feel as a female being examined by a male doctor?
I wonder what protocol was employed in the Victorian era and before when doctors were predominantly male and had to examine female patients?. Personally, my main concern would be finding a good doctor - gender won't matter to me. What are your thoughts - is your doctor male or female?

Like you the gender doesn't really matter much to me, as long as the doctor is good at their job. I must admit that my female Gynecologist is the best I've ever had though. I have been using her for 12 years

My usual doctor is female but I have seen both male and female doctors. My gynaecologists were both male, although it was a woman who did the actual examination. I honestly don't care too much as long as they do their job. It's what they're trained for. I am the kind of person who (and this has actually happened) talk/chat to a random man without even noticing that he is, in fact, a man. Not that I didn't 'know' I was talking to a man, but that it was irrelevant and so my brain didn't pick out the fact until later. It's like my friend who was in a room full of people and was trying to describe a particular person. It didn't occur to her to mention that he was the only non-caucasian in the room.

@Kandae11 Yes, of course. Although, when trying to describe a person, it does help if you notice the glaringly obvious!

I have seen both, though I prefer my physical exam being done by a female. I know they are professional about it, it just makes me feel better.

With technology touching a patient by a doctor is the minimum these days. Having said that a patient will surely know when a doctor goes beyond merely touching.

@Kandae11 Yes, I like that I am able to request a preference. However ultimately if I cannot - male doctor will be fine so far I have not had any problems.

I had a male aide a long time. I have a female now. Medical teams are gender less. A nurse is a nurse and a doctor is a doctor.

I have had a female doctor for many years and that is not a problem for me. I think she is excellent.

I do not mind being seen by a male doctor. My cardiologist is a male and he is charming and respectable.

well in general women are better with women doctors, but i have to say that its not a rule that i follow, i have seen very polite doctors, and the otehr way around the most important is you feel that you can trust this doctor and he or she do not to talk to you from above other wise they can go to..... no matter how experts they are
