Democracy where a majority opresses a minority negates its very being. This is why the Iraquis fight it so hard; the majority would opress the minority. But don't think it doesn't happen in the west either: smoking bans hunting bans etc are examples of where the moral majority opress a minority. Anarchism could not work practically but another model can: the Libertarian model. Its close to Anarchism BUT has some government, and is uniting some Anarchists and the Conservatives against the idea of large government. However some so called Anarchists are too aligned to anti capitalist and animal rights ideas to truly embrace the idea: these are neither true Anarchists or Libertarians. Democracy has failed itself throgh nannying and over governing and victimising and criminilising minorities. Libertarianism is potentially its only salvation.

Anarchy is an interesting philosophy that is completely unrealistic in today's world. It may work in a one world, no borders utopia but until that happens anarchy will not work. Democracy by definition is too cumbersome to work. Which is why most governments are republics with democratically elected representatives and not literal democracies. The old saying goes "Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others"

Survival of the fittest is rule by the strongest. Democracy is just that! Anarchy is where people can take refuge in their chosen group. That is if we even need refuge. But that takes respect, and we don't have that worldwide as of now. The question was stated in an interesting way that completely supports Anarchy. Which government is best suited to make everyone happy? Isn't anarchy the system that guarantees that your interests are met? Only your interests make you happy. Not corporate or political interests. So you form into whatever community supports your interests, and you endorse only those businesses that support your interests.

Personally I think Anarchy is the best political system available and please understand my definition of Anarchy is self-governance, no need for a ruling body. However as we all well know the majority of the people are not ready for that and may never be. The problem with Democracy is that power corrupts and the moment people get into power - not all of course - they are ineffective and sometimes simply because the system is restrictive. So for the time being let's be happy to live in Democratic countries.

Democracy shouldn't be seen as an end in itself, but as a legal means of keeping the government accountable, at least to a limited extent. The main argument in favour of democracy is that it saves the trouble of having a civil war every time a government gets so bad that it needs replacing. The real issue is that governments generally have too much power. People let governments run their lives for them in return for the illusion of security. Anarchy isn't a practical option right now, the best solution at our current level of evolution is a minimal state libertarian approach.
