Silence

I am afraid we will have much less silence around here, now. Hubby and I are trying out Sling TV. It is a service that eliminates the need for cable. We have not had cable in years, but we got this new Smart TV. It has the capability to access the internet by Wi Fi. He really wanted to see the basketball games tonight. I signed us up for a week long free trial, of Sling. It has all the channels I want for just $20 per month. With just antenna television we have only been able to get one network and a weather channel, so we did not have the television on much. It will be different now. I made sweet and sour chicken tonight, hubby ate while watching television. It seems to me that if it is this good, and he likes my food this well, we will definitely cut back some more on eating out. We still do too much of it, to be honest. Sling TV orange package costs less than an average meal out for the two of us. I also think hubby will be more easily persuaded to make fewer trips into town and save his time, energy and gas. It will be something to enjoy during bad weather. So, it will not be so silent. I do not look for it to interfere with my myLot time, though.

Hubby really wanted the sports channels and History, and I like HGTV among others. I have had Amazon for over a year and never have used it for videos. I may now that I have a TV that I want to watch it on.

@Tampa_girl7 I am sure there are. I browsed a little this morning. I do not sit still very well though. My old television was not internet capable, and hubby did not want to watch on a computer.

We have thought about Sling tv, but do not have unlimited internet so that is out for us. Have told hubby that he needs to make less trips to town to save on gas. He is not thrilled with the idea though. It is part of his daily routine to make this trip. His social outlet in a way.

@GardenGerty better to put the savings away than to burn it away in a vehicle.

Hubby works an hour away, or 45 minutes if you will do the speed limit. He prefers to get gas a half hour from here in a different direction. He is always wanting auto parts, food from sales, junk yard stuff, and to go out to eat. So he will drive home, and then want to drive more. Needs to stop.

We have had cable tv since many years and for that we were paying for countless channels which we did not watch. We now have Tatasky with DTH that allows us to choose our channels and only pay for those. .

That is why we have not had cable for a long time, too many things that we did not use but a huge price. I think we are all getting smarter and getting away from it with these services.

@allknowing I think it is here as well. Imagine that, the consumer actually having a voice about things. It is a good change.

So you pay 20 a month, and I assume you have unlimited internet? Something like that would cost us a fortune to use.

Yes, because hubby has to get his work through the internet we have the highest package, I think. Or maybe the middle internet package. He also has a landline through our provider. We pay 108 per month for internet and phone. I have friends an hour a way that pay 250 for all their services and that does not include a land line.

@GardenGerty Something like that would not work for me and my plan - I would be paying more than Diret TV costs.

We got a real deal on the television way back before Christmas. You can get a ROKU device for your television for around $70, then hook it up. The set up on it all was pretty easy. You do need to either use a credit card or PayPal for the Roku account, even if you do not buy anything else. For Sling you need a credit card to put on the account.

I tried sling tv but i didn't like it. The connection was forever buffering but there was no reason for it because no one else was online or downloading anything... I hope you enjoy it though.

So far we have not had that problem. I am surprised as we are so very rural. Our internet connection is fiber optic, though, if that makes any difference.

We do not have cable TV, we have a TV Box that comes with a good choice of programs and it is free with our Internet connection. We always eat at home, we go out only few times a year.

We could get television with our internet, for about $50 more per month or more, and it would not have some of the things hubby wanted.

How do you connect now? Cable, or Dish? What does he like to watch? The sling account is only $20 and it gets both ESPN channels and a lot more things that I like as well.

@andriaperry I am pretty sure that this has all that. There is a seven day free trial so you can explore before making a permanent choice.
