A car just ran over the AT&T telephone box at the corner and all land lines are dead

Just over one hour ago, a speeding red light runner T-boned red mustang. Both cars were totalled and both were being driven by young people, about ages 18 to 22. There were no fatalities. I first heard the crash down the street and immediately looked out and saw people at the corner and lights flashing. I tried to call 911 but was not able to make contact due to the fact, unknown to us at that moment, the land line phones in our house were dead. No dial tone. At first I thought maybe there was just a phone off the hook or one of the phone lines was not plugged in all the way, but when I was told by our next door neighbor about a red mustang running directly into an AT&T telephone box, and taking it down off it's cement foundation, I was in disbelief. So I walked down the street and saw just that. There were 2 cars involved. The reason for this two car accident was due to the Eastbound driver running a red light at the intersection where a Southbound driver was crossing at their green light. All Eastbound lanes are blocked off by police and fire departments and yellow tape has been placed along the perimeter of the wrecked mustang. Glad nobody was injured but not so glad about not having a land line phone service for the next several days ahead. I managed to contact AT&T to notify them about the destroyed telephone box. I am only glad that the internet box is separate and for that reason I am still able to post here at myLot. I spoke to a neighbor who lives at the corner and she told me that their outdoor surveillance camera got the accident on video. I told her the police might need this as evidence in court but then there would probably be statements being made by both parties to the collision and the condition and placement of the two vehicles will be evidence enough of the exact cause of the accident. The time now is 9:48 PM Central Daylight Time, on Saturday night in Dallas, Texas.

I wonder if people are just getting too much in a hurry or is it just because there are so many businesses open after dark and cause traffic to be heavier nowadays than just a few years ago when there seemed to be a lot less traffic? Just a guess. Speed kills. For sure!

It is. I don't have a clue as to the time it will take for them to fix this mess. Meantime I am only happy to do my calling using my cell phone. One good thing will come of it, for a short time, we will not get any annoyance calls from solicitors.

@VirginiaLee , I was telling my wife just yesterday that I would like to remove that phone from the wall and never have to deal with hang ups and robocallers for the rest of our lives. , but of course this would be extreme. I actually depend on that phone for many reasons and do hope it gets fixed. I am amazed that our internet had not been affected by it. It appears they have another box for underground internet cables and for this I am grateful. I don't know what I would do if I lost my internet. Perish that thought.

@lookatdesktop I am sure it is the process of fixing the damaged lines. Good thing that you have an internet today.

I was in a way. It made me nervous and of course we don't have land line service at the moment. But we will have to just be patient and make due.

I know it will take a bit longer than usual, That box that that red mustang ran into, was completely gone. I mean, it was toast. There must have been over 10,000 exposed wires coming out of the ground at it's foundation. I wish drivers would just plain slow the heck down and stop having wrecks. People just drive way too fast and don't watch where they are going. Glad I wasn't walking tonight. I used to take strolls up and down the block, but not any more. I go down back streets to do my walking now.

@jstory07 , Yea, I am afraid it will. Next thing you know, we have storms in the week ahead to deal with. That will make things a lot harder for the telephone people to work with. But then, they could move the box farther away from where it was hit so this may not be as probable to happen again in the near future, but if they simply put it right back in the same spot, well, the odds are in favor of it happening again real soon because of the way people drive on this particular thoroughfare.

Good thing it is something that can be fixed eventually. It will be interesting to see how long it takes.

@lookatdesktop Yes, you should get some type of reduction. Will that happen?

The time it will take is of major concern to us. We need that land line connection. For all the days we are without this service, I maintain strongly that we deserve a reduction in our monthly bill based on the number of off days without this service. A day without our landline is like a day without a good cup of coffee, in a manner of speaking so I would not pay for an empty cup any more than I should pay for a no services day!

@PatZAnthony I have no idea. I doubt that we will.
