Do you cook a big Sunday dinner?

I know there are those who get together for a big family dinner on Sundays. We use to when my mom and dad were living. It use to be nice to have everybody together once a week. We no longer do that but my fiance and I still like to cook a nice meal on Sunday. Today we are having roasted chicken, baked potatoes, carrots and squash. We don't usually have dessert. Does you family get together on Sunday for dinner or do you cook a big meal on Sundays?

Sundays always used to be a big day with a roast but we haven't done that for ages.

We have in the past, but I mostly cook at home. I made ribs, pinto beans, corn and rice pudding tonight.

My mom used to.. We don't have family anymore, just the kids.. and they mostly already live here. Sometimes we cook, sometimes we don't. It really depends on our mood, and our plans. Tonight we had pigs in a blanket, and my youngest got to wrap them, so it was fun for him, and tasty for everyone else.

@Happy2BeMe I'm finally getting into a slower season for a little while. Drumline and winterguard end this weekend. All I have now is my youngest son's baseball. Parade band will start in May. My 14 year old will do a spring play. Some years my daughter does track but I don't think she is this year because I think it already started.

Friday was our night because it's our Sabbath. Times have changed over the years, so Sunday is pizza night or order in night for the two of us. Our younger son goes for Sunday dinner at his fiancée's parents' home. Tonight we are grilling steaks for dinner to use them up before our stay in Florida ends. Enjoy your dinner. It sounds healthy and delicious! I only eat dessert when we have guests over. I've eaten one too many desserts this season. It's a miracle I can fit in my bathingsuits!

No, we live far from each other. I live alone so I just buy enough food for myself.

No sense cooking too much when you live alone.

It depends on the week, and what I feel like cooking. Since I do 98.9 percent of the cooking, sometimes I don't feel like cooking a big meal. However tonight I am making baked potato soup.

Back when I was growing up, I can remember going to church every Sunday and always having a Pot Roast, or something cooking while we were in church and be ready when we got home. But not people are too busy to be able to consider this. We usually have something quick like Spaghetti, but decided on Chicken and Mashed Potatoes.

Yes I think that is exactly what it is now. Everybody is so busy doing other things that they just don't go the big family dinners anyway.

My family used to get together when we were children and my grandparents were still out on the farm. My parents never ever did that with my brothers and myself. Our son lives too far to do that. My hubby and I traditionally like a good sized meal on Sundays, its about the only day we will have dessert. Enjoy your roasted chicken today!

I think back to days in New Jersey when we had family - I don't remember big family dinners, everyone did their own thing. Down here it's just us and every day is Sunday.

For me, Sunday is another day in my work week. I am scheduled to work most Sundays because Walmart runs a minimum of senior staff on a Sunday. The managers know I will still work the same way whether there are managers in the store or not. They also know I will try to keep anyone around me working on something to improve the appearance of our department or in customer service without needing to be constantly prodded to do something besides stand around and talk to the other associates. When I was a kid, we always had a huge Sunday, after-services meal. Mom and dad had 16 living children. That is more than a house full by ourselves.... then, when my brothers and sisters got married and started their own families, my older siblings began a rotation through our family home on Sunday to make sure everyone got to visit for a while with dad and mom without pushing anyone out the door from crowding! I think it is nice you and your fiance make a special meal on Sunday, even if it is not a meal for the extended family.

Thanks. That sounds like quite the family gatherings with all those children. There were six girls in my family and with husbands and niece and nephews we always has a house full so I can only imagine what 16 would have been like.

Yes, sometimes we will have big dinners on Saturday and Sunday as we had more spare time to prepare for it. It is nice to have a long break in weekends.

Its only us no family to around really so we don't have a big dinner on Sunday but we do have just a relaxed day where we have things we normally don't have during the week because of our schedules being different. Sundays we have breakfast together and dinners usually followed by a movie or something with the kids.
