A poem inspired by @Jessicalynnt's latest five word challenge, this time centred on the words 'fake, real, laugh, scowl, jest'
The One And Only
Am I for real or phony?
Who would bother to make a fake
Of Me? Lonely in my baloney
If the original has no worth
And forging facsimile costs the earth
Why bother? - No one would want to own the clone
Mona Lisa Yes, Michelangelo and all the rest
Worth forging any artist they named a turtle after
Replica of a reject no, not even done in jest
I'm too mundane to be anything but unique
You'd have to be having a laugh to sneak
Off a replacement, identical to the first
Even if it was the best copy it would be the worst
Everyone would scowl at the choice of subject matter
The artist would have to be as mad as the proverbial hatter
Even body snatchers would leave me alone
Identity Thefters would never get much of a loan
Using my vital statistics or credentials
Forging Presidents, celebrities and other essentials
Leaves the likes of me as one off creations
Like a child's depiction of Mum and Dad
Hung with pride on the fridge though everyone knows it's really bad
Destined for the bin when the artist gets distracted
Copies don't get any art or Arthur lover attracted
Any more than the real me can do
No one wants one, let alone two!
