Reflections of Love

Today I attended a job fair at a local college. The event was set up in a large auditorium with big plate glass windows at one end. The table I was assigned to set up my booth was facing the large windows. It was a very slow morning, and up until lunch time we had very few students attending the job fair. So, during this slow period I happened to glance out the big window in front of me to see the most beautiful girl I have ever seen sit down at a picnic table in front of the window. Almost immediately, she was staring right at me through the window. Not wanting to be caught drooling over this beauty, I quickly glanced away. But my eyes kept coming back to her, and each time she was looking right at me! She kept smiling and puckering her lips in a kissing fashion, and I knew I had to meet her in person. There obviously was some attraction between the two of us! So, my plan was to get up during my next break and go outside and talk to her. Unfortunately, before I had a chance to go outside and meet her, she got up and left (she must have had to go to class or something). I felt deflated at having missed my chance to meet this girl who was flirting with me. After the job fair was over, a co-worker and I went to grab some lunch at the student union, and then we went to sit down and eat at the very same picnic table the girl was sitting at earlier. I immediately felt my heart sink as we sat down, because when I looked over at the window the girl was staring at me through earlier, I realized it was mirrored glass! The whole time she was smiling and making kissing faces, she wasn't doing it to me...she was doing it to herself! She was looking at her own reflection in the mirrored glass! You couldn't even see anything inside the building, so she never even knew I was right inside on the other side of that glass. The whole time I thought she was in love with me. It turns out, she was in love with herself!

Do not feel sad, you lost nothing. Those who love too much themselves have no time for the others.

@moffittjc - That is the funniest story I ever heard. OMG ... wouldn't the girl be embarrassed to know you had watched her admire herself in the window?

I'm not too sure she would be embarrassed. Kids these days are so used to taking selfies with their cellphones that I think they are more vain than our generation. They don't care if people are watching them when they do their poses or whatever. Think of the duck face craze that young girls do these days. I think it's hilarious, but it's just normal life to these kids.

@DeborahDiane They're just growing up in different times than you or I did. When we grew up, we had a sense of community. That no longer exists, to a certain extent. It is now the "me, me, me" generation, and that individualism comes with a price. People need to feel like they belong to something, be part of a group. With the self-centered "me" generation, they can't get that sense of belonging, so they have to demand attention by being the center of attention. It's how they "fit in."

@moffittjc - I agree with you. Young people today seem to enjoy being the center of attention, rather than want to avoid it. I wonder if they will still feel the same way in 20 years!

With these young people today, I don't think they care if anyone is watching or not. As long as the world revolves around them, they are fine with it.

@jillybean1222 I don't coddle my staff or let them get away with all that entitlement crap that is so prevalent these days. They come to me young, stupid and naive, but when they leave they are hard-working, educated and ready to tackle the world. I think I am one of the few people left who actually take the time to invest in preparing them for the world.

@moffittjc yes, it's the age of social media, instant gratification & i think it is making a lot of people more unaware of the world around them

No, I didn't get a chance. It really wouldn't have mattered, I already have a girlfriend. I wouldn't want to put myself in a precarious position.

Oh, you poor thing! Life sometimes dishes up lemons by the bucketful doesn't it? You should have made faces at the mirror and made a big impact on someone inside. But, life being what it is, you might have just got a slap for your trouble.

It was all in good fun Judy! I already have a girlfriend, so I was not seriously interested in doing anything with that girl. Even if she could have seen me, it would have just been harmless flirting. My girlfriend got a good laugh about it last night when I told her about the whole situation!

It seems to be a thing these days. Every time I went to a washroom on my last holiday, there were young women gathered in front of the mirrors posing and taking selfies.

Trust me, I see it everyday. All of my staff at work are all college students. If I would let them, they would just sit and take selfies all day and then post about how hard they were working! lol
