Trying To Break a Bad Habit

Breaking a bad habit can be hard. Do you have any bad habits you're trying to break? My bad habit is this....I love to read but when I'm reading I love to snack. It's just mindless eating and it can be anything from chips to baby carrots. I don't know what it is about that hand to mouth habit while I read. I'm determined to break this habit but it isn't as easy as I thought it would be. I took my book outside earlier giving myself a change of scenery as well as some fresh air while reading for awhile. I thought maybe if I read in a different place the mindless eating wouldn't happen but I found myself drifting from my book to thinking about snacks. This bad habit just sounds silly to me and you would think it wouldn't be something I'd even have to deal with. I don't know when or where it first started but I'm hoping to be able to break it sooner rather than later. Can you even relate to this?

Ohhhhh, I am actually like this when I myLot . If I am home, it's just too easy to snack and have a lot of tea. But what I've done lately is make sure to stock up on leafy veggies so I can snack on that (not as fun, but at least healthier). I remember one of my son's teachers said she takes a bag of baby spinach and eat them like chips!

@Marilynda1225 But as I get the spinach, I am also passing by the counter that so conveniently has Easter candies . . . I figure it wouldn't hurt to have one . . or two . . or three . . . and you know where this is going

Yup, snacking, nibbling, tasting...and the pounds keep adding up. I said enough. Now to get fit...walking is about the only exercise I know I will stick with.....so....that's what I'm going to do.

It sometimes happens to me, although I don't think I would crave snacks while I'm reading outdoors. So the book isn't exciting enough to just make you focused on it alone? I hope you'll be able to break that habit, I don't know what to suggest. Maybe you can brush your hair or do something else with your hands? But see, that wouldn't exactly break the habit. Oh well, just make sure to eat healthy snacks, and lollipops. They aren't healthy but they last long.

Yes I have/had some bad habits. Some would call one an addiction but I see it now as a habit. I get into routines and find it hard to break them. I tried a few things such as hypnotherapy, nlp and cbt and I guess the combination worked...now I find I can see I'm getting into a bad habit and stop it.

I've been there I done that and to tell you the truth it is mind over matter and a whole lot of determination. It is never easy but it works when you think of YOU first - NOT the beautiful YOU, but think of the Healthy YOU...That one is the one to work for. Good luck and good determination.

I can relate! I always have a big bowl of freshly made popcorn when I read or an apple. That's a habit I don't want to break. Lol!

My sister-in-law never seems to stop nibbling something so I can understand that it is a hard habit to break. Maybe you need some worry beads - something for your hands to do - and perhaps some gum - something to occupy your mouth.

I used to eat and read online but now I make sure I am aware of what I eat because this short little lady was beginning to get as round as I am tall.
