My brother lives in a parsonage most of the time, but has bought a rural property with a house, looking toward retirement. Many of our family gatherings take place at the rural property. In preparation for a family Easter dinner on Sunday, my brother took items out to his rural home at about 9 pm Saturday night. At that time he had a mailbox. It was enclosed in brick and stands at the end of his driveway, near the road. When we arrived there at 1:00 pm Sunday afternoon, my brother found these remains in the picture. Oh and there was a note, possibly a traffic report, in his door.(seems picture that I resized is not loading, I will add it later) I guess at eleven that morning a lady hit his mail box. Hard. She evidently was out of control, as the carnage extended about 150 feet. She tore up the embankment. We guess she is okay. I need to email these photos to my brother for his insurance. Meanwhile he is concerned how he will get his mail. There were bricks scattered all along the torn up ground. I may add more pictures to comments. It does not appear that any person, or animal, was injured. We are wondering if she had to have a tow truck.

I would think having demolished his mail box and the surroundings that she would have had the decency to face him about it add she should have to pay for rebuilding it too

Well, he was not at the house when it happened, he was in the middle of a church service. We wonder if she was taken to the hospital or jail. She did leave contact information and insurance information.

@bunnybon7 From the looks of things she may have needed help to get her vehicle on the road, possibly a wrecker. There are enough neighbors within eye and ear shot they would have reported her. Something this obvious is hard to sneak away from in the daylight.

She must have left her details somewhere so as he can claim in the Insurance. Wonder if she got hurt as well as it sounds very drastic her hitting the wall and the Postbox like that. Perhaps she has already sorted it out and I hope she has for your Brother.

The Note brother found in his door had a square code (QR Code?) and had all of her contact information. He said it did not look like a police report, however he does not see a lot of police reports. . . this may have been the new style. They do know who it was. Yes, the mailbox in its brick setting was about four feet tall. I hope I can get busy and find a way to make the pictures post.

@GardenGerty Well so glad your Brother is safe. I thought that like over here you have to go to the Police and say what has happened and all that and give a detailed report of it. Otherwise they go and get you to do it. So I would say I did it if it happened that way things do happen. What a blow to the Post Box wow.

Well he was a few miles away, in town, preaching an Easter sermon at the time it happened. He was glad that the information was left for him to pursue a claim.

@DianneN She certainly was not in control. Other pictures show where she plowed into the embankment along the front of the property.

She must have really plowed into it. It looks as though she must have certainly had some kind of damage to her car. I hope she is ok.

Yeah, my brother says he would not want anyone to be hurt. She was in a F 150 Ford pick up, but from the looks of the ground around she quite likely could not drive away. I wonder if she was trying to avoid an animal (deer, skunk, raccoon) in the road.

@GardenGerty It must be interesting to be an insurance agent sometimes. I had to call our insurance when the neighbour went on some kind of drunken rampage and smashed his car repeatedly into everything in his yard and ended up knocking over the power pole. It was hot weather and we had no power for 3 days so were worried about our freezer etc. and about what it would cost to put up a new power pole. Another neighbour/tenant had a fire start from the heat lamp in his dog house?! We were in a duplex and that fire caused a lot of damage. Luckily the insurance took care of that. Their hope was to collect from the fellow who caused the fire but that was a no go. Now we live in the country and have no neighbours! But I thing insurance agents must hear and lot of interesting stuff.

We are hoping she is okay. It seems like she maybe clipped the end of the mailbox and then went out of control and skidded along the embankment going up to the side of his property.

Well, from the print out information we know she was driving a pick up truck. There are some skid marks, like maybe she hit the mailbox then tried to brake, then drove into the embankment a few feet further down because she was out of control.

We saw some skid marks. Maybe there was a wild animal in the road or a neighbor's dog. She may have been texting, or had a health problem.

I think she had to have her truck towed away. It is best when something like this happens to own up and leave information. I hope she is okay.

Since then, they put up a temporary, and it was stolen. They tried again, and it was torn down. They got a post office box for the mail that goes there. They also get mail at the parsonage where they live most of the time.

At first, I had no idea what that carnage was, but as I began to read the story, I looked back at it and clearly saw that it had once been a mailbox. What a mess! So glad no one was hurt in that accident.

People still put up the brink encased mail boxes but as far as I know here in Alabama they are illegal because they are not fly away if hit by a car. Yes she will sue for damages so get on it with the insurance company.

I doubt that she will sue. However, he was already talking to insurance on Easter Sunday, so he can sue her for damages. In Kansas, and Oklahoma I know you still can put up brick mailboxes. I have known of people putting mailboxes that would rotate when hit.

It was nice that she left a note. Most people would have just driven off... However, she should have left some contact info. I guess your brother can ask the post office to hold all his mail, until he can get another one built. The downside... He will have to go to the post office to pick it up.

I am sure he will take care of the mail aspect. I doubt her car was driveable. The print out with information could be from a towing company, or from the sheriff. It did have contact information.

The note was like a print out. It had her information, and a square code. I am not sure if it was from a towing company or law enforcement.

It's good that the woman left her information so that your brother could claim his insurance. Some people may not have done that.

We suspect she had to be towed away, so if nothing else the tow company would have left that information, or law enforcement.
