BREAKING NEWS.

What kind of news really attracts you ? - sensational, sad, or news that may be considered boring?. What kind of news really sells? My first job was that of a trainee reporter on a small newspaper. On my first morning at work, my boss informed me that stories such as - a cat being rescued from a tree - won't sell his newspaper - he wanted heavier stuff. I understood what he meant - because - lets face it , which headline would be more appealing to the public - the cat rescue? or a raging fire after a gas explosion? Maybe that is the reason there is so much fake news around - to satisfy the need for the sensational. What are your thoughts? The pixabay picture above reminds me of me in my early days as a reporter.

Politics is usually the main topic in the news whenever an election is drawing close.

@Kandae11 There is this party that is literally taking hold of the country and their new rules are quite intimidating.

@allknowing I suppose the newspapers over there would be full of news about the good and bad pertaining to that party.

Certainly sensationalism sells but I don't think that is any excuse for making stuff up.

@Kandae11 Surely that can't be true! That's terrible.

I agree with you there. The worst I have heard about the lengths newsrooms would go to in the quest for breaking news was this. It seems a Television station owner sent hit men out periodically to murder people - and of course - the news would be first on his station.

Many people prefer sensational news as this is what grabs the attention of everyone and is quite interesting too. However sadly many of those information are distorted.

Have you ever posted a real picture of you on myLot, Kandase? I'd be interested in seeing it, if you have.

The above picture reminds me of when I was in the workforce -outside of home I mean - not much resemblance in the face - but the body - that was the way I dressed for work. The Mylot avatar is a drawing I did of myself eight years ago. During the last two months of Bubblews I lost my head and changed my avatar to a real picture of me - I didn't know they would be closing down - which worked out for the best because I was very worried after posting it. Oh I forgot - some months ago I published a picture of myself with one of my Mylot posts - but it was a picture taken twenty odd years ago.

the news should always be real and true. here in my country, the news presented by the media is always true... so true that the president wants to block the franchise of 2 major media companies. he seems to show that what should be in the news is his achievement as the president, and the killings should not be shared to the public.

A bit of that happens in most countries I should think. The government in power is usually not pleased with any kind of broadcast which highlights its shortcomings.

Any weird news would attract me, eg, a shark with human legs - found stranded on a beach, Trump found with his pants down while giving a speech in the presence of the Queen, etc.

I know. News like that attracts - and that is the reason why news reporters go to any lengths to be the first to report catchy news stories.

indeed, a bigger new would attract and sell the newspaper to many more people. I rarely listen to news nowadays and only hear it from my parents or from scrolling in facebook - which has tons of fake news

Yes, they want the sensational news today even if it is fake .. Well only so much can happen in a day, if there is nothing going on, there is nothing to report. I always thought that must be a hard job Kandase.

Alot of times law stories or crazy stories attract me. Yes, the gas explosion would appeal to people. On a website I used work on had a task where you pick which news story was more appealing.

When I saw the picture I thought it was you. I think the fake news and propaganda that is disguised as news is presented as news is an attempt to confuse mankind and mislead us to the point that we don't believe anything anymore.

I read the paper every day, I skim over the news - I read the ones that interest me. I keep hoping every day I will see the headline "Trump Has Been Impeached!!" that would make me happy. Today newspaper had a sad/glad story of a man finding a urn with ashes in a home he bought to renovate for charity...He searched and found the family of the woman in the urn and her history was in the article, touched my heart...

Sensations are a turn off for me. I am attracted to relevant and genuine information. If the news is about famous people I like to learn something about their work and biography. unfortunately the news are flooded with gossips.
