We went through this last year. I came home from work a couple times and found a snapping turtle a few feet from the driveway after a heavy rain. The second time, I relocated him down to the drainage ditch next to the railroad tracks at the bottom of a hill where our property ends. Didn't want Scar tangling with it, and that seemed to solve the problem. Now, just over a year later...he's back. (Just checked facebook, it was April 11th last year) Or one of the same size, anyway. Scar let me know something was going on outside, so I went to look, and there at the end of the driveway was Mr. Turtle. Evil tempered bastage. So I grabbed him by his tail and took him off to the tracks...he wasn't too pleased by it. Hopefully this time it gets the message.
You don't belong here. I expect to see puddles of water in the yard when I come home from work, not puddles of snapping turtles. [em]w00t[/em] Bu there he...

Damn, that is messed up. Made him walk for a year out of his way, all to do the same thing over again. Poor guy.

Scar is too inquisitive and that guy could easily take a few toes off.

You have all sorts of creatures in your yard. I think the crayfish are the coolest.

One pond I used to fish was full of them, sometimes I would pull a stringer of fish out to add one to it and the fish on the end would be only a head

I'm glad Bagheera doesn't have to deal with a critter like that.

The turtle probably just got swooshed up by the water and relocated @JolietJake . But yeah, I can just see Scar smacking Mr. Turtle around. Of course, he could consider it a 'new' 'toy'.

I doubt he'd get any smacks in, he'd probably lose part of a paw. He came uphill against running water to get to my drive...probably looking for food or possibly to lay eggs

@JolietJake Most turtles will tuck their heads inside their shell, but with a snapping turtle; ya never know. Mr. Turtle must just like your place.

@nanette64 Snappers will almost always fight, and they are extremely quick

It could very well be, I should have 'marked' the shell. I just wish they would stop coming up the hill from the drainage ditch.

@diosabella They have a very powerful bite and don't want to let go when they grab on. Scar could easily lose a couple of toes messing with one.

@JolietJake Are they dangerous? We never had snapping turtle here. Just some green old turtles when ever there's heavy rains and the rice paddies over flows.

You could have adopted him but I suppose scar and a turtle are not perfect companions (lol)

They are nasty critters aren't they? I don't blame The Scar for being less then thrilled to find this animal back in his yard again.

Doodles found one in our yard. I know it will return, because my husband used a stick to push him into the woods. They are evil!!!!

Maybe it took him all that time to get back. Take him twice as far and see if he stays away two years.

Seems they want to come up the ditch hunting food when it is full and running heavy

That turtle looks like a nasty tempered brute. Scar don't want to mess with that.

I remember catching one as a kid, carrying it along and letting it get a bit too close to my leg...

I need to ask you a question. How can you tell the difference between a regular turtle and a snapper? Mom's cousin had snappers living in a pond. A duck landed on the water one day and ended up with a foot missing!

@myklj999 So they have a mouth like a parrot's beak, they're actually mean by nature.
