Where is everyone?

Today is Sunday and I hate going shopping on the weekends as most stores are crowded. We got to the store and there was no one in it except for two cashiers. It was noon time so I know some people are in church but not everyone. Shopping was a pleasure and so was checking out. How are stores on Sunday where you live?

The stores here are full no matter what day it seems. So that is unusual where you are Nancy for Sunday?

Stores are usually only busy here at dinner time, and when storms are announced.

Right, whenever a storm is coming people rush out to get so much stuff. I could never figure it out as I always have the things I need in the house and if I didn't I could go without them. Some people think they are going to be stranded.

@Courtlynn It is funny to see the things people buy. It's like they have nothing in the house and the storm is going to leave them caged in for days.

We try to go to any store on Sunday early in the morning. We were at Lowes when they opened at 9 am and it was not crowded at all...no problem checking out.

I remember when I worked at Home Depot which is similar to Lowes and the store would be quiet on most Sunday mornings unless it was one of the holiday weekends.

I know, I never went to a store and got out and home so fast. Of course if I needed to get out fast that wouldn't have happened.

I didn't go out today but I know that is how it was last weekend when we went out. I couldn't believe how quiet it was everywhere. It was kind-of nice though.

That would be a nice change to shop when it was quiet.

@Happy2BeMe I was in retail most of my life and had a flower shop and a beauty salon so I was always dealing with the public. Every so often I miss the noise and the people.

I am from New Jersey and the stores were always packed. When we moved down to Melbourne, Fla we were shocked as I have never seen long lines anywhere.

Saturday and Sunday is a madhouse and I only go in emergencies. I do my shopping early in the week. In fact, I just came back from shopping. I like to breathe!

shops get busy here though many can only open half a day to keep the church happy on Sundays which get annoying when you need to shop and most places are closed

@ramapo17 it varies here - some stores defy the laws - we also have shops that close for half a day on Wednesdays

It use to be that way when I was growing up. Actually all stores use to be closed on Sundays because of certain laws. That was when I was a teenager. As the years went by, more and more towns aloud stores to open and now it seems like everyone is open, even on some holidays.

@arthurchappell That is interesting. Some stores here open about 6am and close late at night and then we have some that are open 24 hours.

I've not worked on Sunday mornings in many years, but as far as I know it begins to pick up around ten am and then gets even busier after two pm after people have eaten lunch once church is over with. It might stay busy until about seven pm and then get busy again once the sun sets. If it was that slow with only two cashiers I wonder whether that's how slow their store is on Sundays otherwise, where were the other cashiers? If it's usually busier, maybe there was an event in town that drew many customers away until later. When we have a flea market or the fair or sporting events it will be slower when that is going on and then get busy again later on. But we always have all the lanes open by noon on a Sunday even when an event is in town, for we never know ahead of time exactly how busy it will be. If it were slow, they might send a group of cashiers home early or let them help in other departments, but we'd still have quite a few left on the registers. Is it a smaller store, and have you shopped there before? How busy is it usually?

@ramapo17 Our store is open 24 hours 7 days a week and only closes Christmas even about 7 until midnight of Christmas night. Kroger opens at 7am and closes at midnight, and Walmart is open 24/7 too, but I don't know what their hours are for Christmas or other holidays.

Most of the stores will be empty during Sundays' afternoon.people do shopping only in the evening. They will be full of rush and one has to wait for their turn.

Depends on the store. Grocery stores are bad because working people are getting their shopping done.

I think Sundays are pretty quiet here too - until church services finish then everyone seems to flock to buy a few things before going home.
