My Apointment was at 8:30 this morning

Canada
May 2, 2017 3:29pm CST
I am in the process of getting my cataracts removed. Saw my surgeon two weeks ago, she sent me to two other specialists. The first one was a woman (specialist) to measure my eye so my surgeon can get the right sized lens for my surgery The second was this morning. A specialist who looked into my eye to see if my Macular Degeneration is wet or dry... I had no idea there was a difference. I had a half dozen drops in my eyes and sat around for a few minutes, then scanned by another nurse and then sent to the specialist who talked to me for a few minutes looked into my eyes and said it dry - and that's a good thing.... So now I am waiting to see the surgeon to have it done. She said when she gets the info, there will be two dates, a week apart and she will do one each week. Looking forward to being able to see properly soon. I was out of the hospital this morning by 10 AM. Hubby had to hang on to me because I couldn't see well, every thing was blurry... The sky while driving home was pink, the oncoming headlights were blue. If I closed my eyes I saw green. Every time I get drops in my eyes I see colors everywhere... My husband said the sky was gray for him, it was raining again today. Just a little while ago I realized I can see normally now, no more colors and no more wavy walls... I'm glad I'm feeling normal now.... I am happy to be able to see the computer too... Have you seen colors after visiting your eye doctor? The photos above I took last week The finches on the feeder and the leaves on the trees were popping out too...

@PainsOnSlate , I recently had 2 cataracts surgery and what they call "secondary cataracts" after that which necessitated laser treatment. I am still having problems and not a happy camper at all. I live in Canada and had to pay $500.00 for each eye for the artificial lens they put in. Wishing you good luck.

i have heard it is easy and with no problems so I am not worried. I am looking forward to getting it done! (And in Canada we have free surgery...no dollar signs).

I wish you well on both surgeries. I must be lucky, because the drops never bother me. My sunglasses do the job of protecting me from sun sensitivity.

@DianneN I saw my surgeon yesterday and have all the information I need and my dates for the surgery. Soooo much detail, but I'll be reading it daily until the surgery. ( and after for the after care too...)

I think I had the heavy duty eye drops, My glasses that I wear all the time change into sunglasses in the sun. Love them, can't tell you how many sunglasses I broke because they weren't on my face. And thank you I see the surgean tomorrow and looking forward to it.

So when will you have surgery? My husband is going to be doing this same surgery is about a year--and I have no idea what is involved --Were the colors fun? or just bothersome?

I love seeing the colors, i knew ahead of time I was going to have a colors show...I always do when some doctor puts drops in them... I entertain my husband who has to drive me with the colors as they change as he drives.. Today's doctor took too long to see me and I was scheduled for the end of April but had to see this doctor first. Hope to hear from the Surgeon this week with a date and a time - Hopefully before Mothers Day, or right after...

You had a busy morning today! I dislike it when I have to have the drops that the opthamologist puts in, they seem to really make me mind the light, not see colours, but cannot stand the daylight until the drops wear off. Hopefully you'll get your surgery date soon.

It will be good when your surgery is done and you can see properly again. I've only visited an optician in order to get new glasses, I haven't had to have any surgery.

My cataracts were getting really bad, it's time for surgery. I have an appoint this week again with the surgeon just to find out what is going to happen. I have my dates for the eyes, right one first and then two weeks later the left.

I've only had drops in my eyes once for an eye exam. I don't remember seeing colours but it was a long time ago.

I think my drops were special, the usual drops don't do anything but make me uncomfortable until they go away. I see the surgeon tomorrow,

My eye surgery is first thing in the morning on Thursday. I was stressing about it but after starting the drops I need before the surgery (this morning) its like a weight off my shoulders, its going to happen and I am looking forward to seeing better than I do right now.

My Mom has Macular Degeneration, the problem started more than 25 years ago. She also had cataract surgery and everything went well, I am sure you will also be fine.

Is everything still clear @PainsOnSlate ? My Dad had his op a few years ago and still has great sight. He also said he saw strange colours after the op.

@bluesa thanks, I got out to a bunch of yard sales today, so I am doing well. My husband had to drive me but it was kind of him because he was the one who suggested it. He knows I need more beads for my art. Found a bunch ...

I had the surgery yesterday and so far its awesome, scary at first, but not now. I just wrote about the event. Yesterday when my eye s cleared up I was talking with a friend on the phone and looked out the window and my oak trees had green leaves and blue ones too...

I'm glad you're able to have the surgery. I'm waiting for the time when the doctor says I can get it done. I don't see colors when the eye doctor does stuff with my eyes. Interesting.

I think the drops that gives me color are the heavy duty drops. I've never seen colors after a generic visit to my eye doctor, only when I saw the specialist and the surgeon.

I love the photos. I've heard about wet and dry macular degeneration when I researched it when my Mum had it. When my Mum finally passed away at 104 she said she couldn't see faces any more, just a halo of hair around the face.

@PainsOnSlate The macular degeneration destroys the sight immediately in front. Only the peripheral vision remains.

No, I have not seen colors after an eye doctor visit. I have not had so many drops as you have. I have had "field testing" I think it is called and I see light auras even after they are done.

I'm not sure what field testing is but the colors I see go away within a few hours. its just something I've never asked about to an eye doctor, I tend to forget it until it happens again. I will see my surgeon next week and will try to remember to ask.

It only happens when they are looking for deep views of my eyes. Never on just a routine visit with my eye doctor. I might ask them why it happened this time but i know twice they were zeroing on my Macular Degeneration. The specialist who measured my eyes for the surgery gave me drops and nothing happened with the colors.

Love your photo! The finches here are having tons of fun here too. Can't say I ever had the issue of seeing colors after such an exam. It would be interesting to learn what causes this @painsonslate

i am going to address it with my next apt in a week to get her opinion. It has always done that to my eyes, when I realized it didn't happen to everyone i wondered if it was because I am an artist and love and deal with colors all the time. I will let my friends on my lot what she says....in a discussion. I see her next week to discus the surgery that will happen now, before the surgery and after...

Thank you!!! I am hearing that more and more. My husband had a really bad time with his but I insisted on another doctor. Our family eye doctor sends his patience to the other side of Toronto - about a two hour drive No thanks...I got my way and feel I have a great local doctor. SHE will do a great job.
