Enjoying a Beautiful Sunset and Full Moon

The summer heat and humidity of Florida has not quite crept in yet, so it is still a good time of year to be outside, and tonight was one of those "perfect" nights. When I got home from work, I could see the bright full moon rising in the sky, and thought it would be a perfect evening to lay out in the hammock and enjoy the view of the full moon. All the wildfires that Florida is experiencing right now (the worst fire season since 1998) has produced a lot of smoke off in the distance, and the result has been some spectacular sunsets. Tonight did not disappoint. Unfortunately, I left my smartphone inside the house to charge, so I didn't get any photos. I wish I could lay out in the hammock all night and enjoy the spectacular view of the moon, but unfortunately I have lots of things to do in preparation for work tomorrow. But I commend myself for giving in and taking an hour out of my busy schedule to enjoy what amazing views nature has provided. Have any of you had a chance to admire the full moon tonight?

It's not quite dark outside, but storm clouds are out so I might miss the sunset anyway.

Aww, does that mean you can't see the moon? It's really nice tonight.

I'm sorry to hear about the fires. Our fire season has opened here so many people are busy burning heaps of rubbish.

It's been a really bad fire season for us so far. This is normally our dry season, and on top of that we have been in a really bad drought. Honestly, what we really need to get us back to normal is a tropical storm to stall over the area and just sit and dump rain on us for several days.

@moffittjc We've just had a thunderstorm and quite a bit of rain here. The farmers are waiting for good rains so they can start seeding.

You have a hammock??? I'm SO jealous! Perfect relaxation! I only see the moon when it comes around to my side of this monster building in which I live. Sometimes it surprises me because I'm not expecting to look out the window and see it! I haven't been outside enough to check and see if I can see any stars here, either. Although I suspect it's still too bright at night here. Having a balcony 13 floors up probably wouldn't be safe, but I might have a chance to see stars if I did have one! lol

I try to spend as much time in my hammock as I can! I usually carry it with me in my truck wherever I go, because I never know when I'll come across a great opportunity to set it up and lay out in it! But I always want to be prepared!

@moffittjc I wonder if the Boy Scouts had that in mind when they acquired their motto!

@CRK109 I don't know, but as a former Boy Scout, I sure did learn to be prepared for just about anything! Including relaxation! haha

I'll try to give you more advanced warning next time it's out so that you can go outside and see it! Hey Courtney, the full moon will be out tomorrow night!!! Don't miss it! There, now you can't say I didn't give you plenty of advanced warning! LOL

I have to slow down a bit and enjoy the beauty that surrounds us. Seems I have forgotten that I need to do this.

@ElusiveButterfly Maybe that's why we get slower as we get older...it's God's way of telling us to take it easy and enjoy what little time we have left.

The wildfires only seem to be getting worse. We need heavy rain in a bad way!

@infatuatedbby Yes, we seem to have them all right now. We didn't get much rain here in the northern part of the state, but in central and south Florida they got hammered with rain today, which really helped the wildfire situation in those areas (which happened to be the worst fires in the state anyway).

I haven't looked at the moon tonight, but I know what you mean by how beautiful the sunsets are when there is a wildfire. The same thing happens here in California.

It's such a shame that the most amazing sunsets are caused by things such as pollution, smoke and haze!

@DeborahDiane You shouldn't feel guilty about watching beautiful sunsets! Everybody should take the time to watch the sun sink below the horizon!

@moffittjc - I agree. I am always amazed by those sunsets and then feel slightly guilty that I enjoy them so much.

Oh goodness, that's how hot it was last week here in Gainesville! Thankfully, it's still nice out from the cold front that came through over the weekend. It's warming up slowly, but we're not back in "miserable" territory just yet. I give it a few more days! lol

I did admire that full moon. I was so tempted to take a pic of the beautiful round bright moon that night, but I suddenly remembered that I had taken many in the past, at exactly the same spot!

It's funny, because no matter how many times I've taken photos of the moon, or the sun, or a sunrise or sunset, I always keep wanting to take more. It's not like the photo is going to look all that different from the dozens of other photos I have taken, but I still seem to have the urge to snap more pictures!

@moffittjc I know the feeling OK . I once took pic of a sunset at a beach. The scene was just too beautiful for words, so I kept taking pic for about half an hour. At home, I looked at them all, and they were all pretty similar.

I haven't. We can't see sunsets because we live under trees and also on the wrong side of the hill. Yours sounds like a beautiful view.
