I am super excited to share this! As pictured me and my roomies finally bought a Little Free Library. The basic concept is to put free books in them and others can walk up and take one or put more in. They have become popular around my city. As me and my sister are both avid readers, it was just a matter of time until we hopped on the bandwagon. We toyed with the idea of building our own, but we arent really crafy like that. So we pooled together some cash and bought this one pre made on Craigslist for $170. Do you have one of these? Are they popular in yout neighborhood?

I think so! I love that Ive been seeing them pop up over town. And it feels better than donating them to thrift stores!

@maezee I showed this to my husband he is going to get one built and stocked,so it can be put in his village as a lot of people there cannot afford books.

I thought that getting one of these was free from the little free library organization? There is one down the street and I love it. It looks just like this one but was painted like a bee. A YMCA about an hour from us is another one I have seen. I use the little free library house down the street from me all the time.

@maezee wow! When I checked into it they send you a whole bunch of books free to go in your little house when you signed up.

Nice. My understanding is that you can register with the Little Free Library website and so then its listed on their page and you get a plaque also to put on your library. I know you cqn buy one on their website too but last I looked they were upwards of $300!

No one around where i live has these. No one really walks or rides bikes where i am in South Florida. It would probably not work to well in South Florida since its extremely hot and the sun out most of the days. Its a great idea with people who like to read, but i know most people use a kindle or the amazon fire thing to read now a days and no with paper books. Hope it works out well for you and have fun.

We don't have those here but it really is a good idea. I'd jump on the bandwagon too if they become popular.

In my neighborhood there is a corner with benches and eaves and shelves with books next to the street where you can sit and read a book out there - there are flowers and trees all around and everything is built of wood (take the opportunity here and bring it here), Anyone can contribute a book to this library, Everyone can come to sit and read a book. Congratulations to you on the Free Library initiative

Oh that is so cool Maezee. Yes there is one that I know of not too very far from here and we see it when we are walking out walking for the day. It is brilliant! Glad you now have one.

I have heard of these and seen pictures of them. How lovely! I am wondering if you need to get permission from the zoning board to put them up. I don't see any around here. What state do you live in?
