My Best Mother's Day Ever

Okay, you can dial it way down from what you might be thinking. I've come a long way to get this far.
In days gone by, I would sit alone at home without even a phone call from my kids, no cards, no anything and I would have a pity party and end up in mild depression because my kids didn't even think to call or come over.
Last year I made a little change in that idea. I went to my daughter's with a small gift in hand, pictures I had of her kids when they were little, and a four generation picture that had her in it as a baby.
So this year my daughter called me on Saturday. I had planned on calling her to wish her a Happy Mother's Day yesterday, which I still did. However, on Saturday, she texted me - I don't do texts - and wanted to know if I have a sewing machine. I texted back with my flip phone and the old way of texting - finding the letters - and texted back 'Yes.' She texted again. I called. She wanted to know if I would teach her to sew. I told her yes. I need to find the instruction book for the sewing machine - it was Mom's and I haven't used it yet and all machines are different. She's going to be upholstering the deck cushions for their boat, and making new cushions for the patio furniture chairs. So I'm very happy. I'll be teaching my daughter to sew. .
Yesterday, started out a bit disappointing. My oldest said he would go to church with me. He didn't. However, he did call and apologize. He wasn't feeling good, and sounded it too. He did call back later to wish me Happy Mother's Day when he realized he didn't say anything on the first call. My youngest son also came over before going to work and visited for about half an hour, wishing me a Happy Mother's Day, and I called my daughter after I got home from church to wish her a Happy Mother's Day. They had just put the boat in the water and were getting it cleaned up. She asked/invited me to come out on the boat if they took it out, which she doubted since they had just gotten it in the water and there was a lot of cleaning to do before they took it out. They didn't go out, but just the fact they invited me, was a blessing and made me very happy.
That was my best Mother's Day ever and the first time I didn't have a pity party by myself feeling sorry for myself because my kids didn't call or come over.
I hope you had a good Mother's Day yesterday. Thanks for reading.

Oh I am sorry that your kids weren't the most thoughtful there for a little while. Maybe it was just an error of the young to overlook the day. I am happy they are being more thoughtful now and I hope this trend continues. Have fun sewing, too!

@FayeHazel I tried finding the instruction manual for my Mom's machine online, but it's too old. So I need to start searching through my closets for that book.

How wonderful you really were thought of this Mother's Day! In the past few years for me, Mother's Day had always been about my own mother, or my mother in law. Even though part of the weekend was spent for me, the majority of the celebrating had been for our own parents - which had been fine. But this year my mother in law went to my sister in law's for the entire weekend . . . and my mom wanted to postpone it because my sister had to spend the day with her husband's family. So I got to have Mother's Day weekend all for me with my family - so in a sense I guess I had the best Mother's Day ever too!

Thank you. It's the first time I didn't have a pity party and it was great.

This reminds of a text that hung in a friend's room long ago in my hostel.
Plant your own garden instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers....Somehow even after all these years it has stuck with me.
Glad you are going to teach your daughter to sew

I'm glad you had a good day yesterday! I had the best Mother's day ever too this year!! My family spent the day together. We went to church in the morning. My husband bought me 2 pairs of flip flops since I didn't have any. Then after I got done babysitting we all went out to dinner together. It was wonderful!
