Let's talk about women...

I think...a lot. I fancy myself somewhat of a philosopher, to which my 16 year old daughter thinks is pretentious and teases me about. Who cares? At 38, I don't think I'm too old to have valid opinions on the world. But, ugh, teenagers, right? So, women. We make up approximately half of the world's population, which we would probably make up more than half the population if it weren't for China's old "one child rule". Men do most of the raping, murdering, etc. Men are far more likely to be pedophiles and serial killers. We are more likely to be single parents, so we have to have a job and raise our children. Our intelligence level is definitely comparable to men's, in fact, Tesla thought we were the more intelligent sex. In fact, he envisioned a better world with women in charge. We are so amazing that beautiful men like RuPaul, Jinkx Monsoon, Sasha Velour (ok, I know too many drag queen names, so I will stop there) celebrate our sex in their drag. So, why, in 2017 are we so poorly represented? Why do we bring each other down instead of helping each other to succeed and bring about the change we so desperately need? We have never had a female president, vice president, or senate majority leader. We have have ONE female Secretary of State, a former first lady, and we ripped her to shreds. We have had ONE female Speaker of the House (now a minority leader). Why are powerful women despised in this country? Why do we expect them to balance absolutely everything and trashed as bad mothers when they have a successful career? We don't do that to males. So that's nothing new. We talk about this issue all the time. My problem is that there is a huge divide among women. We are far stronger united, differences aside. Why do we attack the different faces of feminism and just embrace how amazing we are and use that to change the circumstances we are in? We are still treated like second class citizens. Sometimes it is men, alone, making decisions about our healthcare, our bodies, etc. Whether you are pro-life, pro-choice, or both, shouldn't that be our decision to make? In US history, there have only ever been 4 female Supreme Court Justices. Right now there are 3, but one of them is 84! If she dies, I seriously doubt our president will appoint another female. Out of 100 US senators, 20 are women. We make up 50.8% of the population (in the US), and only 20% of the US Senate. In the House of Representatives, that statistic is similar (19.3%). Why are we still living in a boys' club? Why does it make me angry? Look at the state of the US. It is out of control, and it sure isn't the fault of any women. But I do think we have the power to stop it. I'm not saying that I think women need to take over the world, but starting with equality would be nice. Teaching our boys to respect their female counterparts as equals. We tell our girls not to dress provocatively, which tells them they share some of the blame when they get raped. Nope, that's not how that works. Rape is about power, and men show their dominance over women We blame women who don't leave their husbands when they are beat or report rape, when, if it has ever happened to, you would know how humiliating and demeaning it feels. It is a horrible feeling to be rendered powerless, and it isn't exactly something you want to announce publicly. It is horrifying. I look at my daughters and how happy they are when they are little. I wish I could protect them from all of the things they will learn about how the world works. That 16 year old that I mentioned earlier has seen it. She's been hurt so deeply that I was afraid it would kill her. I hope her struggles make her stronger and she inspires change. I have seen her violent passion, and her strong opinions she defends so vehemently. Maybe she sees me as pretentious now, but I hope that she sees me as an ally, because I am. I want to be your ally too.
