Every one is different

I know two people have already mentioned depression in the last hour. But I figured I would write a little about it too, since everyone has different issues with it. And by that I mean.. there are people who can get out of bed every day and try to enjoy their days as much as possible. And eat right and work a job. Do what they love, and spend countless hours with their loved ones. Etc. But there are also people who can't. Some people can't get out of bed, no matter how long they've been sleeping/laying for. Some either don't eat enough, or eat too much. Some can't work a job, or try to but can't hold one for long. Some can no longer do what use to make them happy. Some don't want to be around others, because they don't want to be a burden. And some think about or do hurt themselves. So to assume that every person deals with the same depression, and think that it's okay to tell them how to deal with it (therapy, medication, going outside, working).. is just wrong, in my opinion. Unless you're a therapist. But even then, I don't fully agree with telling someone how to deal with it. As you aren't in their shoes or mind. And also, to say its all in someones head, or to get over it, and other things like that.. is definitely wrong. As its not in their head and not something people "get over". So really, forget how you or others deal with it, and just be friend. An ear. A shoulder to cry on. A gaint hug. A reason for them to stay alive. Take care *

I understand. I've been there. With and without medication. With and without a doctor. Depression is effing hard and it sucks. What I've found works for me is a nice dose of anti-depressants (actually higher than the FDA approved amount) each day and a routine to follow. I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm on meds. They help me to be the best ME that I can be.

@Courtlynn did you try different meds or just one? I've been on different ones and they all work differently.

wow hope others will read amd heed ou. Its so easy to just tell someone what you thoikl will help depression but we should mpt.I do thnk telling women to see ther doctors and get check ups is okay as most doctors cam ell if a person has a chemical imbalance or that their depression ls from other sources. Just be some omes friend is the'safest way to be.

I wholly agree. And in all and every case, I donĀ“t thenk we can say to another person how to deal with anything or how to do anything.

@Courtlynn we learned in Psychiatric Nursing that we cannot help somebody deal with his depression as what we expect him to be. we can just assist them in to facing depression. we cannot force to them the management that we studied and learned.

Its not as much about everyone being different in general, but about everyones mental illness being different.. but yes we are all different in general and it does make us unique

Depression is a day by day disease one might feel OK one day and ready to die the next, we all have triggers that hurt us, sometimes it's hard to even smile or talk to close friends. We all have to try to be nice people, we also have to be willing to forgive and understand others as everyone is dealing with something behind the surface.

I agree with everything that you said. Everybody is different in how they handle it. You can't compare one person to another. Everybody deals differently. Having somebody to talk to who really listens can make a huge difference.

Yes. Thats why i hate when people act like what they went through or someone else they know went through, or hoe they coped with it is all there is to it.
