Looking Good, Cecil!

Every high school has a mascot, and where I grew up, Hawthorne, Nevada, ours was Cecil the Serpent (we were the Serpents.) Cecil is a motorized, three piece float. He appears in every parade, and shows up to every football game. He blows smoke out of his nostrils. He rocks. Somewhere, there is a photo of me, in my football uniform, sitting on him, taken back in 1979.
Our town always celebrated Armed Forces Day (which is today) with a parade. Cecil is the main entrant. The parade isn't over until Cecil snakes his way up Main Street.
I saw a photo today on Facebook. Cecil has been given an update. He's now lighter green. So light green that my first thought was that he looks like he represents the Seattle Seahawks.
Part of me wishes that they would have just left Cecil the way he was. Tradition and all. But maybe it was time. He isn't as menacing as he used to be, but he still looks great!

I have seen Cecil before Scott in my online travels.
So nice to know that he was your school mascot ..yes shame they didn't keep him as you remember him.
I'd love to see that photo of you on him in your football uniform.

Cecil is looking good and is the largest school mascot I have ever seen. My high school was far more mundane. It was a public school, Santa Ana High, but we were the "Saints", with Sammy Saint as our mascot.
I remember a 1950s kids show with Beanie and Cecil, the seasick sea serpent.

He was even more menacing before. Too bad our football team, on which I played, was awful and couldn't live up to him.

No, that's old Cecil. He absolutely terrified me as a child.
