Part-Ramble, Part-Complaint (but Mostly Ramble): Microsoft's Apparent Lack of Interest

Microsoft Windows Windows Live Writer error-popup

For the past couple days, trying to run Windows Live Writer has only gotten me this error message (see picture ... and clicking the 'view problem details'-arrow shows me ... I quote it below) I click 'check online for a solution and close program.' It shows a kind-of 'sending'-window (you know, with one o` those 'loading ...'-bars) and ... nothing. Something tells me Windows would help more if I had Win 10 (or -7 or -8 or some number) rather than "XP." I searched for 'Windows Live Writer FAQ," but the closest thing I found was either 'a forum about problems with Windows Live Mail' or "4 Alternatives to Windows Live Writer" (which didn't say anything about 'automatic linking'---the WLW-feature I love the most ) (the 'problem details'? "Description: Stopped working -- Problem signature--Problem Event Name: APPCRASH, Application Name: OpenLiveWriter.exe, Application Version: 0.6.2.0, Application Timestamp: 59248655, Fault Module Name: KERNEL32.dll, Fault Module Version: 6.0.6002.19623, Fault Module Timestamp: 56ec36ff, Exception Code: e0434352, Exception Offset: 0003fdb6, OS Version: 6.0.6002.2.2.0.768.3, Locale ID: 1033") Does anyone here know what I ought to do? Thanks.
Microsoft recently announced the end of the Windows Live brand. In response to concerns, all Microsoft is saying about Windows Live Writer is it will “work great on Windows 8” – not whether development is being halted or not.

Yeah, Windows uses that for lots of things (I forget whether they actually answer the problem, though)
