Should Have Trusted My Sixth Sense

Yesterday, while at my last client's home, I had a premonition about her. She has been having spells lately. She had 2 in the past few days. It worried me that she would have one when nobody was there. Then the thought came to mind that she was going to have one when I was showering her. Well, it did happen. She began to get very confused. Couldn't wash herself. I had to finish her up quick. She started to slump over. Her speech became garbled. I sat her upright and spoke to her sharply to get her attention. She tried to sit up straight, but it took much effort on her part. I rinsed her hair and grabbed a towel and began to dry her off. I called her neighbor to come assist me with her. We then called 911 to get help with the rescue squad. There was no way to get her out of the shower without help. After they got there it was decided she would be transported to the hospital. I found out today that she was admitted and would be there for a couple of days. She has a UTI and they want to get it under control before they release her to go home. I have had my sixth sense kick in a time or two. I guess I better listen to it a little better.

That is amazing! I'm sure she was difficult to get out of the tub, and you were smart to get help so quickly. I hope she will be fine. Good ESP on your part!

I left the bathroom when the medics arrived. There is little space to move around between the tub and bathroom sink. The put her in a chair rather than the gurney. She has had this condition before. I hope it isn't long before she is home again.

Glad to hear that everything work out even though it must have been scary at the time. I hope she is feeling better soon so she can come back home.

This is the third time this week that this has happened. She had been tested for a UTI about 3 weeks ago and it was clear. Unfortunately it can happen more frequently for the elderly who wear briefs and are incontinent.

@Happy2BeMe yes, and I am trying to convince her to go into assisted living. She is stubborn.

@ElusiveButterfly does she stay alone when you are not there?

I didn't know a UTI could cause that. You're good at knowing your clients!

It's a good thing you were there when it happened. Did she have a stroke as well as the UTI? Hope she gets better soon.

@BarBaraPrz my mother gets them so frequently that it worries me. She is in a nursing home and doesn't know when she soils herself so she cannot ask for someone to change her. It really irks me to come in and smell her sitting in a mess.

She has been tested for mini strokes and the results were clear. UTI can really mess with a person's ability to walk, talk, and do little things.

@ElusiveButterfly Yeah, my friend's mother is constantly getting them, and when she has one she's difficult to say the least.

Thankfully for you both that your sixth sense kicked in and while you were there with her. I hope that she recovers, and that you can go on, that must be so difficult.

I was glad that I was there when this happened too. She had fallen a couple of times in the past week and I cringe at the thought of her laying there with nobody to help.

Thank goodness you were with her when she had this latest spell. UTIs can really make a person confused, but I hope that's all it is.

She has fallen the night before and her neighbor helped her up. I was glad that I was there yesterday or she would have been worse.

She will be fine once the medicine kicks the infection from her body. I do worry about her being alone again though.

Gut feel is usually correct. Best that you learn to listen to it. You saved that person's life.
