How Do You Develop Creativity?

I often heared that some people were born a creative genius or are really gifted, while for us average people creativity could be enhance and develop. Are you a creative person? How do you develop creativity? Is there a limit to one's creativity? Do you think the jumping gold fish in the picture will be able to jump and swim inside the other aquarium?

Creativity is a gift, but it's also one that needs to be cultivated so you get better at it. There are many ways people are creative. For me, my creativity is in writing. I started writing when I was 8, but I certainly didn't have a knack for it, at least I don't think so. When I decided to work towards publishing, that's when I got serious about my writing and subscribed to writer's magazines so I would know what publishers and editors looked for from newbie authors, and started honing my craft. Creativity takes a lot of work, practice, and patience. There is no limit to a person's creativity. You can go as far as your imagination will take you. After all just because we aren't sending manned space shuttles into space any longer doesn't mean we've stopped dreaming about going beyond to Mars and the farthest reaches of the solar system. I think that fish will enjoy having the new fishbowl all to himself.

I'm very creative when it comes to writing stories. I wasn't born with it. But it's what my muse and my dreams come up with it. I don't think there's a limit. Not sure if the goldfish could make it.

@kristenH I agree with you that we always need the inspiration of the Muses plus our individual dreams. I also wonder if the gold fish will be able to make it, but all things being equal, the gold fish might have a 50/50 chance of making it or not making it.

Wow so many good questions with pretty easy answers when asking me: YES I am creative and it must be that good ole 6th sense that kicks in as the corporeal senses are heightened by diligent awareness; and as far as developing it, well it naturally occurs without me even thinking on it. Never was an 'inside the box' kind of person and ALWAYS colored outside the lines as well . . . and finally if the fish is really sick and tired of his old home on the left, he'll or she'll will find energy to leap over the fence (so to speak) and swim new waters in the right bowl hmmm aquarium . . .

@enlightenedpsych2 Great to hear this! Hey Erica, I have a discussion/post about the "Third Eye" and is it the same as the "6th Sense" as you used this word or term? Thank you.

Yaaah for me, to develop a creativity is always do a creativity that we cannot imagine before it, until the creativity appears in our mind then we do the creativity.

Maybe the goldfish can jump that far. I'm not sure about creativity. I believe if you enjoy doing something you will get good at it. But it's a possibility that a person is born with creative genes.

Yes I heard that also Mike. I do believe that most people do have creativity to some degree. With the right environment and encouragement, it can flourish. I would consider that I am creative, but in the wrong environment, I keep it close inside. I was lucky to have a profession that I treasured to let my creativity come out. Yes, I think that fish will thrive and swim!

Yes to the gold fish answer. I believe mostly creativity is inherent . But taking lessons can to an extent develop this but it won't be the same thing
