Beautiful Day for a Walk

It was 71 degrees Fahrenheit (22 C) when I got up this morning. Add a light breeze and you’ve got perfect walking weather. My walking partner headed out of town yesterday and will be gone for a week, so I walked alone. I turned on my ipod, put the buds in my ears, and headed out. My goal is to get back to the three miles a day that I walked before my foot surgery. I’ve managed it some days by walking a mile and a half in the morning and then heading out again in the evening. I want to get back to three miles every morning. As the weather was nice and I didn’t have to worry about keeping up with my friend, I increased my distance today. Two miles. I have a ways to go yet, but I’m starting to think I might be able to reach that morning three mile mark by the end of the month.

Thanks for mentioning Celsius as well!

@BettyB Thanks for this comment. Some of your country people react aggressively if one asks them to mention Centigrade as well. Yet, it's a (sad [for them]) fact that Fahrenheit remains the official scale only for the following countries: the United States and associated territories (Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands), the Bahamas, Belize, the Cayman Islands and Palau.

This is a global group. It makes sense to use both. Besides, the U.S. needs to convert over. Fahrenheit is an outdated scale. I wish we would switch to metric as well.

@MALUSE I understand why we don't switch to metric exclusively. The cost of converting deeds to property and maps would be prohibitive, but there's no reason not to switch from Fahrenheit to Celsius.

I love this picture, you used to use it on the other site and it really suits the walking discussions that you post. I think that you'll reach your goal of 3 miles a day, if you are technically already there. You do have the perfect weather for it today, so enjoy!

I took the picture a few years ago in a park that's not far from us. I wish it was close enough to walk there every day, but for now I'll walk the streets in our neighborhood.

Just take it easy and don't overdo it. You don't want to damage your foot again. I have to get back into walking to build stamina. I will have to get out the stroller so I can push the Little Miss and walk a little faster. She will object though because she likes to walk.

@BettyB I'll have to get her to use the stroller this summer when the fairs start up. Not going to carry her or have her walk all over the place. She will tire out and so will I. LOL

Well if you managed to reached the two miles you are still doing good. Take care of yourself as you said you had the surgery recently. I hope you get to achieve your goal

Thanks. My doctor said I would be back to my regular routine by March. I don't think he took my age into consideration. I'll get there, eventually.

@BettyB Until the end of June it's still fine to walk late in the afternoon. July and August will be too hot.

@LadyDuck I can still walk in the evening but its fast reaching the point where I would rather stay in the air conditioning.

I like walking in the evening in the spring and fall, but now that summer has arrived, it's too hot until after dark. By that time I'm far more interested in going to bed.

That would be wonderful. As soon as I have my knee replacement surgery I'm hoping to do some walking as well. Adding that to the pool.

I would enjoy a walk in surroundings such as seen in the photo. You are the best judge of what you are able to achieve but the opinion of your doctor with regard to the stress place on your foot after surgery should be taken into consideration.

Walking for enjoyment
Hi. It sure is a nice day for a walk . I live in Michigan and the birds are chirping and the weather is just beautiful here. Early Sunday morning and its so nice quiet for living in town. i hope you heal quickly from your surgery. Thank you for being an encouragement. It is time I get back to walking every day for exercise and my health.

My inspiration is ten years older than me but looks ten years younger than me. She walks three to five miles four days a week, and bikes ten on the others.

As long as I wake up in the morning (well not too early in the morning) it's a beautiful day for a walk. Mother Nature makes it that way sunny or raining!

Way to go! Make sure you can hear people around you, with the music going that can be dangerous walking alone.

Thanks for your concern, but it's a quiet neighborhood and there are a lot of walkers out. I'm careful and wear a reflective vest but it helps to know most of the people along the route. If I ran into trouble I wouldn't have far to go to get help.
