I thought the groundhog was cool yesterday, but then later in the evening I got an even bigger surprise...a whistlepig in the yard! I didn't even know we had whistlepigs around here! But I looked it up on Google, and yep...it's a whistlepig! I bet if it got together with the hummingbirds they could make some cool music!

How much whistle could a whistlepig whistle if a whistlepig could pig whistle?

I thought that a whistlepig was the same as a groundhog. According to Wikipedia (yeah, OK!) they are jest diff'rent names fer the same thing. In Europe their relatives are called marmots and they are, apparently, just big squirrels which got too fat and so had to learn to live in holes. I guess that, if it grunted it was a groundhog and if it whistled it was a whistlepig. Pigs are pigs (or hogs or boars or sows) and they are pink and are known to be particularly bad at avation. Mind you, I've heard of hedgehogs and boar and sow badgers and even pig-iron so groundhogs and whistlepigs are sort of par for the course.

Wow! You ain't gonna believe it, but just now I saw a danged woodchuck down where I saw the groundhog and whistlepig yesterday! But seriously...I saw him once last year walking the treeline, and this is three times in two days I have seen him eating clover and basking in the sun...

You should charge admittance to the yard, you've got a (non) petting zoo happening there don't ya?

@JolietJake I think that has a lot to do with the mood of his zoo-keeper!

I never heard of a whistlepig. What there is in the lawn top left of the whistlepig? Is this a squirrel?

@LadyDuck You and I might know it as a marmot. I believe that a relative lives in the Alps.

Cool I never heard them called a whistlepig before! The next time I am talking about the groundhog in our yard I will refer to him as a whistlepig. I bet everybody will look at me like I'm crazy!! then again they do give me that look every now and then anyway.

Dang it, you're weird. Its a ground hog. I know its a ground hog, Scar knows its a ground hog....but you insist on calling it a whistle pig. I see no corkscrew tail or hooves. It expresses no desire to bath in mud. The silly thing doesn't whistle even the simplest of tunes either. I think you've gotten quite confused JJ. Have you been getting in Scar's catnip again?

It shouldn't be out because it's past Groundhog Day. Or maybe he misplaced the memo.
