How MyLot can make you $120/day (I'm serious!)

While I was in Santa Barbara, my friend told me how got scammed...sort of. Some dude approached him in a parking lot and said, "Hey man, cloudy head lights are dangerous. They account for (some BS statistic) of nighttime accidents on the road. I can clean your headlights for $60 in literally five minutes." My friend is both savvy and kind, so he said, "Heck no, but I like your pitch." Of course, the dude persevered, using the "door in the face" approach to sales. "Man, I'll do it for $40." My friend makes pretty good money, and was curious. "OK," he said. "But you have to tell me your secret." The guy whipped out some mystery liquid, wiped off my friend's headlights, did it a couple more times, and said, "Wa la!" (I'm assuming he didn't know the proper spelling is "Voila!") He then sprayed some sort of clear enamel over the lead lights to "lock in his work." My friend was amazed: The cloudiness really was gone. "OK, what's the mystery liquid?" he asked, laughing and reaching for his wallet. "It's (so and so), that you can get at the Dollar Tree!" the man laughed in return. The had a brief friendly conversation and parted. My friend went and bought the stuff, and told me he's going to do it on several of his friends' cars (sans the enamel), to "get his money back." We did it on my headlights, and it really does work! I had tried tooth paste (no success) and a couple of the other "miracle cloudy headlight cures" out there in internet land (no success), and this was the first one that actually worked. "To hell with being a psychologist, I said to my friend. I'm going to hang out in parking lots and clean peoples' headlights!" If I do three cars at $40, I can return to MyLot, progress notes, speaker restoration, guitar, and my normal jobs, knowing I've already made $120 that morning. Would you stoop to the level of "being that grubby guy in the Fry's parking lot, cleaning headlights"? I'm going to head to my Dollar Tree and see if I can find the stuff. Maybe I'll actually dress grubby (I do that most of the time anyway) and try it. Being a social psychologist, I can justify it by collecting data on who is nice, who is nasty, who actually lets me charge them $60 or $40, etc. I'll reveal the "mystery formula" once I get it. I forget what it's called, but I'll recognize it when I see it.

Heh. I got the stuff. Now the question is: Do I have the nerve to pose as a poor person in a parking lot, hawking my headlight cleaning skills.

Well, I done did my own headlights again (they already looked pretty good) and discovered you want to use a really clean rag for best results. Will I really have the huevos to go out there and do my "experiment"? That's another matter.

My late brother had lost his job and needed some money badly. My late mother taught us how to make certain types of fun food. I was about to start feeling bad for my brother because he didn't have a job. But when I asked my other brother how he was doing, he said: “Uuuhh … He woke up this morning, made a batch of fritters. Now he's standing on the corner selling them and making good money too!" Then he laughed and added: “You just can't keep a good man down!” Your story reminds me of my brother. Whatever it takes to survive, as long as it's an honest living and you ain't hurting nobody. Just do it!

That's how I feel about my speaker restoration work. I started doing that when I worked at a corrupt institution where I had been a "whistle blower." I knew I could be fired there at any time. I knew that if I got fired there (I actually lasted almost 16 years) I could be more proactive about speaker restoration. We all have skills--it's just a matter of finding them and using them.

Guys who do windscreen at stop lights here are likely to get arrested in some parts of the country.

OFF by Johnson & Johnson works very well, but I used a baking soda toothpaste and it also worked very well. Possibly you did not use a baking soda toothpaste.

You can bet your sweet ..... I most certainly would, I am a business woman and making money is in my genes. When the stuff came out back a few years ago there were a few guys set up at gas stations and try to get you to buy it. I declined because I already seen it for $5 at dollar general.

I could actually be the Fagin of headlight cleaning, sending armies of children who trust me to do the sad eyed thing so adults will let them clean headlights for $60. Then I'll make the little blighters give me 75% of the take. Buwaahaahaa! Oh, and I'll serve them gruel, whatever that is.

Good luck with whatever you are doing then. We had to take ours to the Garage to be cleaned as they gotten really dirty and could only clean them up with some kind of machine. It was a matter of do or die as we could have gotten fined for not having them like they should have been.

@TheHorse Don´t know really as they were in pretty bad shape as we have very hot weather here most of the year round which does not help matters at all and we do not have a Garage as such to protect the Car more. Our friend´s machine was the only answer and he had to give them a go over twice as well. He will not do that again in a hurry leave them so long without cleaning them properly.

I did find it. I wonder if I should edit this post to show a picture of it, or be a tease and post the picture in a separate post. I did learn just now that you really need a clean rag to make it work well on headlights.

I had a guy stop me at the store once he had some stuff to clean the car even out the paint job,as we had some spots that were faded, He did a good job told us where he worked and we paid him 20 and he was off...My first thought was to get in the car when I seen him coming but he had a good sales pitch.

Sounds like a non-scam. He just had the stuff with him and wanted to make some extra "scratch" while he was out and about.

Good luck. If I have nothing else to earn money, I will do that. Maybe. I am too shy to do that kind of job in the public.

I think I might do that in the parking lot of a posh hotel or somewhere frequented by people with more money than sense. But then, they probably have people who care for their cars so they would not need me. I don't think I could do that much of a markup. I would charge $5 and still make a nice profit. I think that most of the people I have access to are probably be like me, surviving but with very little to spare. My headlights are very cloudy so I will appreciate knowing the name of the product once you get it!

Ah, good points. The fancy BMW people with probably look at me as if I were an amoeba. The poor don't have the money. So I should start my experiment in middle class-ville somewhere. And charge something reasonable.

I sometimes have a touch of Social Anxiety. But I overcome it by being friendly yet appropriate. I try to make others feel comfortable. But yeah, that could make it hard to approach people in a parking lot. I taught the skill to my kid client yesterday, but I haven't tried my "experiment" yet.
