I know that there are many of you who will remember that adorable little alien E.T. who wanted so badly to “phone home”. When Steven Spielberg struck gold with this science-fiction classic he was just 34.”E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial” came out in movie theaters on June 11, 1982. Spielberg was familiar with this kind of topic because he had already scored big with “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” in 1977. What made E.T. special was that the little creature was just adorable with wrinkly skin and a belly that glowed. The story was just delightful when the little alien gets stranded he is befriended by a little boy named Elliott played by Henry Thomas. Elliott is willing to help E.T. find a way to get home assisted by his two siblings older brother Michael played by Robert MacNaughton and a seven-year old Drew Barrymore portraying Gertie. I simply love the scene where Gertie meets E.T. and they both stand there screaming at each other. E.T. had its first showing at the 1982 Cannes Film Festival and the vibes were positive. The movie went on to win four Oscars – Best Sound Effects Editing, Best Visual Effects, Best Original Score and Best Sound. The movie brought in $435 million. How many of you have seen this movie? http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/e-t-the-extra-terrestrial-released
