I feel like I am being tested. Maybe all my doctors got together and decided to drive me nuts (c'mon, we all knew I'd go nuts some day). No, I'm not deluded or self-centered enough (really!) to think doctors would actually bother to do that. But boy, do I feel like I was on a calm river, just floating on down the way, and now I'm in a stupid (does "stinking sound better?) rapids that keep trying to tip me over into the reckoning abyss of the water fall! Wow, I can be very dramatic. It all seemed to start on Memorial Day, and has not quit. I keep thinking in my head what I need to say to each doctor to just have them leave me alone. I have a doctor who suddenly just cut my migraine medication in half. I passed out on Memorial Day in a restaurant (I'm fine, they said the only thing they could find wrong was a low heart rate; EKG & chest Xray were normal), and she doesn't say anything about that. Which I'm fine with because I don't think it's a big deal either. The hospital said sometimes these things happen. Anyway, that she says nothing about, but all of a sudden she cuts my migraine medication. I've had migraines since I was eight, and I've seen numerous neurologists. There has been other doctor things happening, but the migraine thing bothers me the most. You only take it when you need it, and it's not something you get addicted to. Trust me, it gives you no benefit other than hopefully ridding you of the agony in your head. Someone, tell me what's going on with you. I'm talking too much about myself. Okay, go!

Even I have been suffering from migraine for quite some time now. My doctor has prescribed very ineffective medecines for me. They just don't help in stopping the headache. Sometimes the headaches may last for 2 days. I can totally understand how you feel.

Oh, I feel for you. The longest my migraine lasted was four days. It's terrible. I've been to the ER before for a migraine, but all they did was load me up on Benadryl, hoping to get me to sleep it off. I told them it wouldn't work, and it didn't. Benadryl doesn't make me sleepy. Do your doctors prescribe muscle relaxers in addition to mainstream migraine medication?

Cutting migraine meds...oh thats real smart huh. Not. Anything you can do about it Ambie? You sound just like my son ..he wants to say all these things to the docs but is wary of rocking the boat. How frustrating to say the least. I think I understand you. Me, I am still nuts period

No, you're not nuts! You're great! I've learned on Medicaid if you finally get a good doctor, tread lightly. It's hard to find a legitimately good one.

@AmbiePam haha thanks for saying I am great..so are you Ambie..they just try to make you think you are not. lol Yes..there are less and less options, I get it..Medicaid is changing and less services. I feel you Ambie. I hear what you are saying, same here.

@TiarasOceanView My first Medicaid doctor told me I had arthritis because I was fat. He didn't even give me the chance to say anything about my car accident. The second doctor told me, and he used finger quotations, "Fibromyalgia is what women make up in their minds." By the third doctor I just wanted someone to be nice to me! lol The third doctor was nice, but he asked me if I was a lesbian...simply because I wasn't sexually active! That floored me.

Well, Bob finished his prostate cancer treatment in May, the 22. We left for Minnesota the 24th. Came back home, he went to work the day after Memorial Day. We went to a local festival June 3, June 4 Bob woke up with a stroke. We did not think it was a stroke but went to the ER anyway. He has recovered well and has just been released to drive alone. I have been driving him to work. We tend to think the hormone shot and radiation for the cancer contributed or caused this, but no doctor will say so.

I'm in favor of wacky people! What you said about migraines is true. My sister had a migraine for the first time last month. She called me and said, "If your migraines are as bad as the one I just had, I can't believe you don't shoot yourself in the head." I'm sure she meant to commiserate with me, it just didn't come out well.

@rebelann Yeah, I have to say when she told me that it's the first one she's ever had, and it's as bad as mine, my first thought was she should go have that checked. They always say if it's the worst you've ever had in your life, then go to the ER. I'm surprised she didn't.

I know this is from a few months ago but I figured I'd comment anyway. I've been getting migraines since I was 2 and they are agony. When I was 18 and had finally been sent to a neurologist, who put me on anticonvulsant meds, my stupid primary doctor at the time took me off of them because, in his words, "I didn't really get migraines." Some doctors are just idiots! Now I am taking low-dose muscle relaxers three times a day, which have helped, but I am still getting break-through headaches, which are becoming more frequent again. I once had a migraine that lasted for two months! I probably should have gone to the hospital for that one but it never occurred to me then that a migraine was something to go to the ER for, since I had just been living with them my entire life. I have lost jobs, had to drop out of regular public school as a teenager, and had my entire life disrupted due to migraines. I recently found out that you can get disability for migraines -- I wish I had known that years ago, because I would have filed for it when I was 18 rather than struggle to function as a "normal" adult in a society that does not cater to us with migraines. So now I am going to apply for it and hope I get approved (I have other conditions that I should be able to get disability for too, but the migraines are the main one.) Anyway. I hope you are doing okay. Did your medication ever get readjusted, or are you still stuck with it being cut in half? It is not right that doctors pull this crap. Not right at all. I hope you are not having to live in agony because your doctor felt it was appropriate to cut your medication.

I had heard years ago Troy Aikman was working with some organizations to get the government to recognize migraines as a reason for disability, but I hadn't heard it was official, and that's great. My doctor finally prescribed the correct dose, but she stressed me out. I get to where I meet a doctor just out and about and I almost instantly dislike them. My dad says I should write a book about my experiences with the medical community once I got on Medicaid. It's pretty terrible, but I know you have had terrible experiences with doctors too.

@Srbageldog This is going to sound bad, but play up the mental illness. That gets their attention far more than fibromyalgia (I have it too). I mean don't leave out any detail. I think being bipolar is one of my more mild problems, but I am pretty sure that worked in my favor more than anything else.

@AmbiePam I read that it was a recognized disability on a migraine website, (Migraines.com I think) so I assumed it was true. I will have to call a lawyer I guess and ask. Even if it's not a reason for disability (which it should be,) I also have fibromyalgia, chronic major depressive disorder, OCD, anxiety, etc. So I think I should qualify. Can't hurt to try anyway. I'm glad you finally got the correct dose. You should write a book about your experiences with medicaid. I have pretty much had medicaid in one form or another my whole life, so I guess I don't know any difference. Doctors have just always been pretty crappy in my experience. It's so rare to find a good one, and whenever I do they never stick around long. They always leave their practice and I have to try to find a replacement. Right now I'm content with the doctors I currently have, but am unsure about one specialist (my gastroenterologist.) He's this old guy who is just so flippant about everything. It doesn't make me feel very confident that he knows what he's doing.

I get migraines at the base of my skull all the time @AmbiePam . I don't take meds; just aspirin and use a wet, hot , washcloth at the base of the skull (it opens the blood vessels that become restricted causing the headache).

That sounds like a tension one. But it sounds like you're doing what you can to keep them away. That's good. Do you think it would help if someone in your household gave you a massage when one started?

@AmbiePam Unfortunately since I live alone and family is 3 states away, it would have to be the cats. Although they seem to knead everywhere else. Maybe I could teach them to do the head too.

I don't know what migraine is? But I know what pain anyone bears when it happens. They are doctors , they might have thought something that's why they have reduced the meds.

No, but I made an appointment for tomorrow. I know she thinks it's too many. Well, I can't help how many migraines I get. I've been to numerous neurologists, had an EEG, many MRIs, and a Catscan. We've done all we can, there is no alternative. All she is doing is lessening my ability to treat a migraine. It's not addictive, so she doesn't have to worry about that.

That is what I do. I only take them with the onset of a migraine. Sometimes they don't work at all, but more often than not, they go away with just the one pill, after several hours. They aren't even addictive.

@DianneN It's really the vomiting and loss of vision that makes it worse. My face looks hilarious as the force of the throwing up breaks the capillaries in my face. A couple of of years ago they'd last for days, even with a pill. Since my eye surgeries it might take a day, but usually they go away for the most part.

Well, I don't have the solution to the migraine, as I just lay down in a dark room until it goes away. I know that isn't going to help solve reduction of medication for you now. Big hugs
