My Granddaughter made a card all by herself

for her Grandpa, my ex husband. She had so much fun but as 3 1/2 year olds do, she was very focused on the glitter glue. I had buttons and beads and ribbons and crayons, scissors and pictures to cut out to decorate the card. I wish I had a camera to take a picture of the result. There is the construction paper card neatly folded with a few lines of glitter leading to a HUGE pile of all colors of glitter glue. A long little bead is glued off to the side and a picture of a car is on the side of the card. It was hard not to laugh at the result. It reminded me of my boys helping to decorate the Christmas tree when they were her age and putting all the ornaments together on just a few branches. Grandpa is going to be very amused when we go to his house for cake and ice cream! I had 6 tubes of glitter glue, all came in one package from the dollar store. Thank goodness they were only a dollar because she used nearly all of the glitter glue on that one card! Do you have little artists that do funny things like that?

I've no kids or young relatives...well I do have some but the contact isn't great...primarily my fault. I was just thinking that a hand made card from a kid would probably be worth xxxx shop bought cards.

Yes, they mean a lot more. And I loved helping her make it. Now we'll make one for great grandma soon but I'll have to get more glitter glue, she went through most of 6 tubes!

Aren't they wonderful at that age? They are so willing to do everything (except take a nap and go to bed at night!) and it's a time when we make a strong impression on them. I love making cards and stuff with my granddaughter. I'm glad you got to have fun with him and guide him for so many years. I hope you can see him again soon.

Do you think you'll have any? I always told my kids not to have children for me, wait till they were ready. I feel so blessed with this child in my life and another will be here very soon.

@dragon54u My daughter is already 23 y/o but she's not yet ready for a relationship , no boyfriend yet. My second son who is now 21 has a girlfriend but still no plan of getting married. I will just wait for their turn and won't push them...I still feel young to be called grandma

i wish I had. I'm the creative one at home. I have all sorts of craft materials and it's my way of relaxation to do something almost on a daily basis. Too bad you didn't have a photo of that card.

Yeah, someday I have to get some sort of a camera. I used to have one but it got lost in a move and I don't have a smart phone.

lovely that she wanted to create something for her granddad like that - probably still better than any of my art though

Are you artistic? I'd like to see some of your creations. Her grandpa was showing off that card yesterday and a baby shower, he loves being the recipient of a sewage plant!

Well, even though she used almost all of the glitter, as long as most of it is on the card, and not going to be found elsewhere, that is a good thing. But hey if she had Fun and went home talking about what she did when she was with you, that is all that matters. Right?

You are right, it's the experience that matters. This is the first time in weeks I've been able to get her to sit down and do something like this and also the first time I've felt like doing it with her. She and her mom live with me, or did until recently when my other (future) DIL needed some help. They are at her other grandma's now and I miss her so much!

I also like that we will both remember doing it together and my ex, his wife, and I had a good laugh over the picture she glued to it that somehow I didn't realize what it was--a sewage plant!

Yes, especially since the picture she cut out from a magazine was so hilarious. I did not have my glasses on so just let her cut it out--her first time and she did great!--and much to my surprise today my ex laughed and said it was the first time anyone had given him a sewage plant for his birthday! Sure enough, it was a sewage plant complete with icky drainage! I thought it looked like an RV without my glasses. That'll teach me! But it was hilarious and something we'll laugh about for a long time.

He laughed a lot. If you will read below, she chose a picture of a sewage plant for the front. I was not wearing my glasses and it looked like a factory to me. LOL! We'll be laughing about that for years. But it was her first time cutting something out and she did a great job!

He was very happy. She cut out a picture from an old magazine for the front and I wasn't wearing my glasses. I found out today because my ex got a good laugh out of it--it was a sewage plant!
